Doesn't he need to just retire? I mean he's had a great career..but don't you come to a point when you just gotta say...I'm done?

Ugh, first Vick and now Favre. He's only doing this because he didn't have a chance to play against Green Bay last season with the Jets. With the Vikings, he'll be getting two chances to beat the Packers. I guess he wants that to be the last feat of his career.

As a Vikings fan I just want everyone to know that we did NOT get a vote on his hiring. He would still be retired if we had!

Yeah, with all the time he spent in Green Bay, I would think the Vikings fans would have a problem with this. It would be like the Ravens bringing in Big Ben! I would not be a happy camper. In my opinion this will just hold back the Vikings for another year, not going to be a help.

Didn't he un-retire before and not do very well?

Yeah, he un-retired last year and played for the Jets. Did well until about the mid-way point and then had an injury that he had surgery on in the off season. Should have stayed retired the first time.

Kind of like Jr Seau..Played for the Chargers, went to Miami..returned to the Chargers to retire...then unretired and went to New England.

I don't think Favre's decision was based entirely on getting to play against the Packers, or "sticking it" to Ted Thompson. No one who has followed Favre's career to any extent can deny his passion for the game. He is a fierce competitor who really loves to play football. Thats his biggest motivator. To a lesser extent he may want to get back at the Packers front office for pushing him out the door. but I doubt that is his primary motivator.

In my opinion as a Packer fan, Favre could not have chosen a worse team to play for. The Vikings are the enemy. From Favre's perspective it is a perfect match. Minnesota has a much stronger offensive line which will give him more protection and the Vikings' receivers are much better than the Jets. They also have a tremendous running game that includes Adrian Peterson who is arguably the best running back in the league. This means Favre won't have to throw the ball nearly as often as he did in New York. All of this is bad news to Packer fans because until yesterday the Vikings were a quarterback shy of being serious playoff contenders.

As for Favre retiring....

As long as a professional athlete has the desire to play, and there is a team willing to pay him to play, why does anyone else care? Favre has been sharply criticized for creating a "media frenzy" over the past few years, but honestly, who is more to blame, Favre or the media itself? Think about it. Favre says very little to the media and he doesn't do many interviews.

Yes he did and also tried his hand at baseball. That went over really well.

Someone should buy Bret a bowling ball and we can hope for the best.

The real problem is that football doesn't have a good minor league system nor a Seniors Tour where over-the-hill players who want to continue can go. Favre can and will sell tickets -- he's a colorful and likable guy -- but his playing on at GB cost them. He was losing late-season games all by himself (fumbles and interceptions) and his staying on kept the team from rebuilding. (OTOH, it was probably good for Aaron Rodgers to ride the bench and not get the beating Alex Smith was taking at the Niners.)

The Vikes won the division last year. Look for the Bears (or maybe even GBay) this year.
