Iggy Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Hip Hip Hooray!! Way to go Pam Yeah, credit card debt- when husband and I married he had three credit cards, two were maxed out and the third was getting close. One of the cards he inadvertently used to take cash out of the ATM- that 'cash advance' really cost us. The balance on the card was pretty high, and the total balance has to be paid off to stop the cash advance interest (which was 21%) We finally paid that card off- took us three years. The second maxed out card is now down to only $1K+ (it has a $10K limit), and the third card is the card husband charges gas, meds, net flix on. We pay that off every billing. I would like to get rid of at least one of the cards. Husband has taken it out of his wallet, so he won't accidently use it again- but he wants it for emergencies. We still have three credit cards, plus our checking debit cards. Way too much plastic to have. The good side is the balances owed are dramatically lower after 5 years of paying on them. Quote
pam Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 Kind of a funny story. I had a friend at one time that said she had a credit card for "emergency purposes" only. She was always telling me about her financial woes. So one day she is talking about how she purchased a new big 52" color tv. I asked.."ummm how did you pay for that since you are always talking about being out of money?" She said "I used my credit card." So I responded "I thought that was for emergencies only." "Well it was an emergency, our other tv died on us." What isn't an emergency to one..obviously is considered an emergency to others. Quote

pam Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 Though with football season upon us..I too, might consider the loss of a tv an emergency. Quote
Guest Godless Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 True, but even that doesn't have to be expensive. I just upgraded from a 15" SDTV to a 27" SDTV for $40. Sure, it's not HD, but at least I don't have to squint at the screen anymore. Quote
pam Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 Agreed...I don't watch enough tv to warrant the purchase of a much larger tv. Quote

Guest Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 You must be Filipino if, you have a vacuum tube black and white TV wooden furniture playing a local news station in the garage, the 21" with RCA jacks in the kitchen playing a rerun of Pacquiao vs Hatton, the 27" with PIP in the bedroom hooked up to the nintendo, and the 52" HDTV in the living room attached to the karaoke magic microphone. Filipinos don't get rid of TV's - they just get demoted to a different room in the house... Quote
