mlbrowninwa Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 (edited) My son who is a new member to the church as I came to me last night with a decision he had made in school yesterday. He had been asked in church a couple weeks ago to attend seminary at his high school. At first he didn't think he would be able to as he is very involved in sports(football, swimming, basketball, etc) and as he couldn't drive yet, did not want to put myself or his sister in the position to have to have him at school at six am. So at first due to all the practices after school he had declined to attend. However yesterday, he went to his councilor at school and asked for assistance to get in the class. They set him up in an afternoon class which will be his last period. In order to do this he has to get that credit somewhere else as seminary does not carry credits toward graduation. They laid out three options for him including independent study courses at BYU. His councilor said the BYU courses would look great on his record for moving on to college. So he went ahead and signed up. He said that he really felt like he should be in that class to learn more of the scriptures. I was really happy with his decision and the efforts he went to achieve it. :) Edited September 10, 2009 by mlbrowninwa grammer correction Quote
beefche Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 That's great. Good for him to be thinking of his future like that. How does your wife feel about this? And I'm assuming you've done the dad/son pound on the back, grunt, and ruffle the hair thing to show your pride in him. Quote
mlbrowninwa Posted September 10, 2009 Author Report Posted September 10, 2009 How does your wife feel about this?Well to my knowledge she doesn't know it yet. Last night she worked night shift so we haven't been able to talk to her yet. But she knew he was looking at it before and was ok with it. Even though she doesn't feel the need to be a member of the church at this time, she really likes all of his friends that are in the church and she is very happy when he chooses to be with them rather than his old crowd. He said he would talk with her about it tonight. My wife supports him and his decision to be in the church and related actives very well. Quote
lalechemom Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I hope your son enjoys seminary. I had a lot of great teachers. I grew in Orem, Utah, and seminary was held in just our normal school schedule. We didn't have early morning seminary. But up here they do have the EMS(early morning seminary). That is dedication man. but truly awesome. Quote
pam Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 That's awesome. You have a right to be proud of him. Quote
maybeinNH Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 you should be super proud! Quote

Congrats as a parent. Quote
Guest Alana Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 That's awesome! School can be overwhelming. I was crazy in school taking tons of classes and AP classes and classes at the college, but I can say that seminary always started the day off right. Even if it was at 6am:P Quote
