Something like this (forgive me if my inexact retelling slaughters the joke):

A missionary returning from his service is seated by an Irish gentleman. During the flight, the stewardess asks the Irishman if he would like a drink, and he orders a whiskey. The stewardess hands the Irishman his drink and asks the missionary if he would like a drink, too. The missionary wrinkles his nose and says, "I'd rather fornicate with the head stewardess than drink that vile sauce!" Whereupon the Irishman hands his drink back and says, "Me, too. I didn't know we had the choice."

That is a good one.

Ah-ha... say no more. The daily mail aren't exactly known for their thoughtful, deep and carefully written articles :)

Too right! The Daily Mail is nothing but a right-wing scandal rag. For ten years they boosted their sales by publishing thinly disguised hate-articles against Colin Stagg, and never apologised when he was eventially proven innocent. Their major response was to say (more-or-less) "well, he's a wierdo anyway" and (like most other tabloids) turn their guns on the stupidity of police tactics which they had wholeheartedly supported at the time. My thinking on this is if we steal from the rich to give to the poor and ignore the debate on it being stealing or not the Lord still would not be pleased.

If we take from the rich and give what they had to the poor then we are denying them their agency to do what they would choose with what the Lord has helped them obtain. That would be the Law of Satan not God.

Besides it is stealing we just like to justify things. What is the greater good for one is not for another, it is up to the Lord to decide what is morally correct and what is not.

Better tell that to Robin Hood (or even Fagan):

[FAGIN (spoken)]

Who says crime doesn't pay?

[sung] Robin Hood, what a crook!

Gave away, what he took.

Charity's fine, subscribe to mine.

Get out and pick-a-pocket or two

You've got to pick-a-pocket or two, boys

You've got to pick-a-pocket or two.

[bOYS]

Robin Hood was far too good

He had to pick-a-pocket or two.

I saw a bumper sticker last week that was a little different. It said, "why do people kill people, who kill people, to show others that killing people...is wrong?"

And of course, like just about any bumper sticker, the answer is really easy.

This is about the death penalty. There are 3 reasons we apply the death penalty. Argue with them if you wish, but none of them is "to show others that killing people is wrong".

1- To provide justice to the victims.

2- To prevent the killer from killing again.

3- To act as a deterrent.

(And no, #3 is not what the bumper sticker is talking about. A deterrent isn't "see, killing is wrong". A deterrent is "If you kill someone, we'll kill you". Big difference.)

But hey, if you're a bumper sticker, you're not interested in actually countering real arguments. You're only interested in scoring points.

Well. Now. Let's see.

I know how to treat the poor.

My taxes go to pay

for the prisons and the poorhouses.

The homeless must go there.

- But some would rather die.

If they'd rather die.

then they'd better do it...

and decrease the surplus population!

I can't quite remember where I heard this from..I think Gonzo was in it....
