addicthelp Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Hello All. I am new to the forum. I thought I would quickly introduce myself. I live in Utah County and work with addicts. I had a friend who mentioned they see people with addiction related issues frequently on the forum and that I may be able to occasionally help. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist but mostly work with addicts. I do a lot of work with Porn addicts and have seen the hope that recovery can bring to individuals and families. I see perscription med addiction really growing. Addiction does not discriminate. I know great people who have fallen into addiction and no one would even guess it. There is hope through learning skills and the atonement. I have personally witnessed dozens of individuals find sobriety. Let me know if I can help answer any questions :) Quote

NeuroTypical Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Hi addicthelp, So, what was your poison? Or is your learning all academic? Quote
addicthelp Posted May 10, 2010 Author Report Posted May 10, 2010 Loudmouth...I love it! It is interesting how one of the first questions I always get asked is what addiction(s)/poison, if any, I am recovering from. I don't think any human being exists where all their life learning is all academic. All of our lives are shaped from experience. I am a huge believer of redemption, change, and forgiveness. I am not a huge fan in dwelling on the past...however, there are situations where individuals need to face the past, accept it for what it is, and move on in a positive direction. Much of my learning has been through watching and helping others...but of course I have worked to overcome my own weakness in life. For some it is substance, others emotion like anger, hate, or envy. Others is is self-image or depression. Others, it is pornography or sexual issues. Many have scarred childhoods and relationship issues. The list can go on and on. Quote
