ldsgooner Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Is this not a group that is referred to in the worthiness interview? Is there an official standpoint, or what is your view. Quote
gabelpa Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 The BNP is not a political party for starters. It's a bunch of thugs who have managed to get some political backing. UKIP is of a similar bent, but the Church doesn't really tel people how to vote. That question is best left between the interviewer, the interviewee, and God. Quote
Elgama Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Don't know about an official standpoint but part of being tolerant and a free society is allowing views contrary to your own that you don't like. I have never been asked about political affiliation in a temple recommend interview The men I grew up around went through hell in WW2 so that we could have those freedoms, my personal view is they are scum Quote
Dravin Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) I have never been asked about political affiliation in a temple recommend interviewI think he's referencing the question about affiliation with groups antagonistic to the Church or being sympathetic to such groups. I know lots of people like to claim Republicans, Democrats or some other political affiliation are against the question (usually in the middle of giving a tirade) but I've never heard anything that is even vaguely close to being within a country mile of 10 leagues of an 11' pole of being official. That question is best left between the interviewer, the interviewee, and God.For my part I've never had a break down of groups given during the interview that are supposed to meet the criteria of the question referenced above in my post. beefche Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 I've asked my bishop and stake president about that question and how it is viewed. That sparked an informative discussion so that I could better understand the principle behind the question and then answer it more fully. I would suggest the same to anyone who has a question about the temple recommend interview questions. Quote

I hope he's not a BYU alumni or that might not end well. Quote
john doe Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Now I'm tempted to ask my Bishop if UVU counts... I hope he's not a BYU alumni or that might not end well.I think I can authoritatively state that UVU barely enters the minds of someone who has attended BYU. It's like asking a Utah Jazz fan if they would feel threatened by the 2009-10 basketball team at the University of Utah. Quote
bytor2112 Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Pretty sure they give registered Democrats Temple recommends...... Quote

john doe Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Hey, someone has to take the huddled mass of those who didn't make it into BYU...I'm reminded of the line in Caddyshack, where Judge Smails, in response to Danny complaining how hard it is to get into law school, replies "Well, the world needs ditch diggers too". GADBabaganoosh Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 I never even applied to BYU. 8) And I go to UVU. I just really don't feeling like being REQUIRED to take religion courses. Prolly cause I was good at sluffing seminary back in the day. Quote

Prolly cause I was good at sluffing seminary back in the day.I'm going to UVU too thus my comment about affiliation. :) I just like picking on BYU and UVU. BYU for being the "one true school" and UVU for being the "not-BYU".I'm reminded of the line in Caddyshack, where Judge Smails, in response to Danny complaining how hard it is to get into law school, replies "Well, the world needs ditch diggers too".Oddly fitting as I'm considering geology, a fault trench is a kind of ditch after all. john doe Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Don't get me wrong, I chafed at some of the silly rules when going to Ricks College back in the day too. But BYU is not at all threatened by the existence of UVU, even though they are just down the street from each other. Quote

prisonchaplain Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Is UVU the Utah equivalent of "Oh...I see...you went to a secular school...(unspoken, but deafening tsk tsk tsk accompanies the comment)? Quote
Dravin Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Is UVU the Utah equivalent of "Oh...I see...you went to a secular school...(unspoken, but deafening tsk tsk tsk accompanies the comment)?Actually it's kinda the other way around. The UVU folks are kinda proud that they got a "secular" education and didn't have to put up with religious classes and could wear sandals, shorts and facial hair (even some of the gals at school). The culture is different as it's where a decent chunk of the non-LDS Happy Valley folks go so it leans further left and casts a critical eye towards the Y (judging by the editorials in the school paper) and the Church, at least more critical than you'd expect (but not necessarily is) at BYU.P.S. I don't want you to think it's some bitter hatred, just some friendly rivalry for the most part. Quote
