  1. I think it's both. Who doesn't love a good barbecue?
  2. And here I was reading about a lawyer fired for not attending the same camp as you because he didn't want to --CENSORED-- with the other --CENSORED-- --CENSORED-- Yeahm not a nice story and I don't know how much is just maybe a local chapter's take on things, or whatnot, but.. At least you came out of it better than you went in I should hope.
  3. If I could find an image of the trollface for easy use, I'd put it next to his name. Definately troll, and if he left just after saying it, not a very good one either.
  4. There was an Elder in my Mission in Texas, who lived solely on rice and put his stipend into a seperate savings account. This was so he could buy a car when he got off his mission. Another who was promised things when he got home. Neither of them made very good missionaries. For your son to be the most effective, he has to want to be there, of his own will and choice. Otherwise he does the Lord a disservice.
  5. A Patriarichal Blessing is predicated upon our obedience, and is only a small slice of what he may become. He may still obtain all the other blessings if he chooses the right path now, or later in life. The worst thing you could do is try to force him to do something he doesn't want to do, that's how Satan wanted to do things.
  6. He may be prudent, but his companion may not be. Since companionships change every few months, you can never be certain.
  7. I guess setting up a distribution network to rival Amazon is not easy when you're sitting on nearly a billion in debt.
  8. Personally I am glad to see them go. Soon, the last remnants of the old Republic will be stripped away.. wait.. wrong movie. Anyhow, while it is a shame to see a brick and mortar store die out, they didn't exactly move with the changes or adapt.
  9. Is it really any of their business? I don't think it is right, or proper to actively try to alter someone's system of belief. This is what they will do if you tell them. Sometimes, people just need to shut their mouth when religion or lack thereof comes up.
  10. My main problem here is the aparrent assumption that 100% of pornography is harmful to the creators, and that 100% of those who view it are addicted. This black and white distinction is simply not the case. Yes, some are harmed, severely, and some have a harmful addiction to pornography, but as I said before, especially with the new breed, some are not. We as LDS are supposed to stand against immorality, but biasing our arguments does little good. We have to consider all angles. Should the worst be taken care of first? Yes, but in the world of today, we will never be able to end the worst. The scale of the opponent has to be understood.
  11. I agree, however there is one point to bring up, and that is the advent of modern amateur porn. Self-photography, couples recording themselves, and sharing the videos online, etc. The points the OP made rarely apply to this new pornograpy. I could say more, but there are other things I would rather do than launch ino a diatride about where pornography is going, and not the mainstream media.
  12. I wore hait the same length as yours, and a founding father style beard. I only got positive comments. Got rid of it to look more professional at work. Depends on where you live, people are peope.
  13. My parent's house in California had a metal security door that opened outwards, and a standard door that opened in. We also had a dog we called Bear, and for good reason. Just inside the door was a baseball bat. Now, our neighbourhood wasn't the roughest, but my sister hung out with a rough crowd. We rarely opened the door at night, but when we did, the security door was locked. It provided a good feeling of safety.
  14. Or, you could do your Mission, then get back and re-evaluate. Maybe you picked up a second language that would be faluable to the Air Force? They will help with your education. So there really is no need to choose, you can do all three, just in a specific order.
  15. Well, this is certianly interesting. Here's what I think, though it may be controvertial. We get everything wrong. Revelation can serve as a guise for claiming all things. I have seen similar self-deception. In our current situation, we do deceive ourselves, but leadership has done the same. We can excuse away human error by saying that is how things were supposed to happen, but is this really the case?
  16. Hope Bourne - Telegraph This is a must-read I feel. I want to go and try to find her books now.
  17. My best friend in High School had a moustache, he could have done handlebars if he really wanted. He grew this moustache in Middle School. A few years later, still in High School, he grew a full beard. Me, I can't grow a 'tache, so it's Brigham Beard for me. I did sport it for a while, but it and my long hair are a thing of the past. For now.
  18. We had two handgun safes in my house. One is a combination that my dad could open by muscle memory as long as the dial was in the 0 position at start. The second was bolted to my parent's waterbed and needed two of the round keys to get in to. I have seen a handgun lock that had one key for each finger, and the combination consisted of pressing a sequence of keys. Can be done in the dark, quickly and quietly. If my dad didn't keep a loaded short barrel Mossberg shotgun hanging from a hook, he would have picked this safe up. Me and my sis were both older teenagers when he started doing this, so it was as safe as a loaded shotgun on a hook could be. Thankfully he put it back in the safe when my sis divorced her drug dealing gang member husband.
  19. A mammal, with a bill that lays eggs and has venomous back claws? Nothing funny about that!
  20. My favourite of all the revolvers I've shot, top break .38 Webley.
  21. Oh, for some real fun, specific black powder pistols are exempt from the handgun ban. Although I dread what would happen should I be caught with one of thse UK Gunroom: Pietta Sheriff's Model .44 Black Powder Pistol (for sale) or one of these UK Gunroom: Ruger Old Army .44 Black Powder Pistol (for sale) or one of these UK Gunroom: Uberti 1861 Navy .36 Black Powder Pistol (for sale) on my person. There haven't been any murders with these, but they are a legal firearm. Load them up with old fashioned smokey powder and you can use the cloud of smoke to escape. BTW, that marlin linked, looks cool. I had a Ruger No. 1 chambered for .45-70, and loaded my own rounds with a slow burning powder. Lower muzzle velocities, but didn't tear my shoulder off.
  22. I've heard that 400% number bandied about, and it is not accurate. There are several factors at play, including a change in the way firearms crime was recorded following the 1997 handgun ban. The calculated actual increase in the first year was not 400%, but rather 110% in the first year. In 1999 there were 42 handgun deaths in England/wales, which dropped to 27 in 2005, but has since gone back up to 39, then down to 29. That is 1 in every 1,892,857 people were killed by a handgun in England/Wales. Most handgun deaths make national news here. We've had a few shootings, recently Raoul Moat went on a rampage with a shotgun, killing several people and wounding many others, until he was killed in a standoff. These incidents are rare, but a handgun was not used. I don't have the full battery of statistics to hand, but I don't think that handgun homicides are a major killer. Most thugs do resort to knives. Although we had a murder close to us recently, it was a screwdriver. We even have a ban on carrying knives here, hence the screwdriver. If a thug wants a weapon, he will get a weapon, be it a gun, a box cutter or a brick. You don't point a gun at something you're not willing to pull the trigger on, and you don't pull the trigger on something you're not willing to destroy. If you wander around your house maintaining your sight picture, you are likely to drop the hammer on a family member. Will you be able to recognize your target as a threat, get a sight picture, and hit center mass in low light? If you are going to get a gun for home defence, make darn well sure you know how to use that darned thing.
  23. theoriginalavatar, that gun looks very familiar. I am sure that I grew up with that one in the house, as well as the others that I named previously. Heck, when my dad passed away, we had something in the neighbourhood of fourty long guns to sell. My mom just wanted to keep hers, and a few of the others that had a bit more significance. I think now, 7 years on, she has parted with all except her bolt action .22, probably got that one in the late '50's, early '60's.. If I put my mind to it, I am sure I could remember his arsenal. Ahh, memories, but now I live in Scotland, where I need a place to shoot, a secure locker, and an interview with the Firearms Officer, on the local Police force before I can even purchase the firearm. I have none of the above.
