Artwork and models

I'm wondering, what is the church's policy on art and nude models?

A few days ago I came across a website that provided computer generated 3D models of people in various poses. The models did not have clothing, hair, or skin, and showed only the muscular structure of the model.

Genitalia was not visible, but on the female model, the nipples were implied. My first reaction was positive. I've been an artist for many years and often have trouble finding models for my work. I always draw my subjects clothed, but knowing what's going on underneath helps keep the picture anatomically correct.

Yet as I perused the site, I began to get a bad feeling. True, the model's were not sexually explicit, but the sheer bareness of them began to make me uneasy, and I quickly closed the site window.

Are muscle bare models considered pornographic? and is it bad to use them for artwork?

Until, I know for sure, I'm steering clear of this. :(

This is a topic that doesn't get discussed around here a whole lot. There are a couple of threads on it, though. A lot of the people who have contributed to these other threads are still around, but a lot aren't. Might be some good reading, at least as a jump-off place.

Go with YOUR gut instinct. If you're feeling this way, don't do it and avoid putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation.

I did a lot of art in highschool and uni. For me, this stuff has always felt very comfortable to me. I never viewed it as being "wrong" or "right". Art was just apart of me and I got a lot of joy and relaxation from doing it. Eons ago, I had some artwork chosen to be displayed at one of the universities here in Utah. It was in nude form. The live model that I portrayed was/is an active LDS. Not sure where the line is drawn but if your heart is telling you NO, that's always a good indication to go with. I'm not going to say this is acceptable material for everyone. Certainly there are individuals that are best to leave it alone, regardless, of if it is art intended to enlighten and not arouse. Pray about it if you need more confirmation.

... my high school art teacher, who was a bishop, if I remember correctly, taught us how to "see under clothes" when we were drawing.

The human body is beautiful. I don't think the naked body is a bad thing at all. Satan just made ruined it with porn, that's all.

well if you're learning the human anatomy some things are necessary (in general there is plenty of material that detail all the muscles and organs of the human body both seperate and together, so a person would not need to have a live model in order to learn)... But for a majority of the musculature does not require full nudity.

having been an art fan I've seen a few source books where the models used had private parts covered just enough so that the rest of the musculature was visible.

So you could find soemthing like that.

IF youre in the only art class where they have a person come in and model nude I'd suggest talking to the instructor to see if any alternative can be worked out for you, or you may just have to bear it.

Zerg Queen

The Zerg Queen has continued to evolve over the last few months. She is a fierce defender of the Zerg Hatcheries and can often be found in small groups defending the larger Zerg infestations. In addition to defending her Hatchery from ground and air threats, the Queen has several special abilities that require energy to use.

Build Creep Tumor: with a mighty push from her bowels, the Queen creates a cluster of organic tumors that generate additional creep. In recent months the Zerg have mutated to move more quickly on creep, making this an important function for the Queen.

Spawn Larva: by injecting Queen ichor into a Hatchery, Lair or Hive the Queen can cause the Zerg structure to undergo a startling metamorphosis. The Hatchery starts to throb and green sacks swell up on the structure. Eventually four additional larva burst out of the Hatchery and land next to whatever larva are already wriggling around nearby. While a Hatchery hosts more than 3 larva, the Hatchery will not spawn additional larva, until that number drops below 3.

Razor Plague: with a great breath the queen exhales a cloud of tiny Zerg creatures that create a vast swarm nearby. These creatures attack all enemy creatures within their swarm, doing additional damage to biological targets. What makes it worse is the Zerg player can control the swarm, moving it around to attack whatever enemies he wishes until the swarm becomes exhausted and dissipates.
