What revelations and prophecies have we been given in the Church in more recent times? Are there any that have really struck you in your lifetime?

Would be the one in 1978 that allowed Blacks to hold the Priesthood.

That and the First Presidency Proclamation of 1980, the Family Proclamation of 1995.

And if you're looking for revelations and prophecies, read the General Conference talks as well as the Ensign articles. Just off the top of my head, read the Book of Mormon, get out of debt, year supply, etc.

I remember when the 70s were dissolved from the Stake level.

I also remember when the second quorum of the 70 was established. That was a pretty big deal.

I even consider the addition of "harmful drugs" to the Word of Wisdom as divinely inspired.

I remember that! I also remember the 70s in my Ward kicking and screaming about it! My dad has an opinion on it that I will not share for fear of hijacking the thread.

My husband and I both discussed getting out of debt and food storage as ones we knew of too. :)

Hey, if it's up to me, feel free to hijack. I'm interested in hearing about these things. :)

I remember when the meeting schedule was consolidated to 3 hours on Sunday except for the youth once night a week. It was a very positive change and gave families more times together.

Consolidated to 3? How long was church previously?

Sundays

9:00a, Priesthood/Relief Society

10:00a, go home

1:00p, Sacrament Meeting

2:00p, Go Home

Wednesdays

4:00p, Primary

The change happened back in 1980, why does it seem it wasn't that long ago?

Have to say, that was a good change. It seems more efficient to get everything done in 3 straight hours. Though I have to say that having primary/Sunday school on Wednesdays doesn't seem so strange to me; most other churches do some sort of youth activity or even another church service on Wednesdays. (When I was Lutheran they did a contemporary worship service that you could attend instead of the Sunday service if you couldn't make it on Sundays because of work).

Wait! You forgot Sunday School.

I think it went

Sundays

7:00 or 8:00 am Priesthood

9:00 or 10:00 am Sunday School go home

1:00 pm Sacrament Meeting. Wasn't it two hours? If not 2 then I think 1 1/2 hours.

Wednesdays

4:00 pm Primary

Relief Society was mid week. My husband tells me it was in the morning. I don't remember because I didn't attend RS back then. It might have been in the evenings?

Heck, I was 12 when it happened. I barely remember what I had for breakfast, if I did have breakfast

Others I think of is the Building of Smaller Temples. Thats how Temples use to be, for some reason we started to build bigger temples that could do it all. Now that we are back to smaller temples everybody has access.

Also in the new Handbook of Instructions, now everything flows through the ward counsel. Its not really a big change, just using the tools that are in place in a better way. Its going to take some time.

"Temples that could do it all," what do you mean?

And by "everybody has access" do you mean that they're more accessible to get to, or more accessible in terms of what you can do in them? If it's the latter, then I don't understand because all of the ordinances performed are the same. I'm probably just misunderstanding you. ;)

Everyone has access = closer to home. I.E. don't have to drive for two days just to get to the front door of a temple.

Do It All = Temples with not only baptistry, endowment rooms and sealing rooms but also progressive endowment rooms, chapels, large Priesthood meeting hall, laundry, cafeteria. I.E. Salt Lake Temple, Los Angeles Temple, Washington DC Temple.

Alright, so I figured as much about the access. :)

Thanks for clarifying about the do-it-all temples. I don't think I've ever been to one like that -- only been to Chicago and Rexburg!

...only been to Chicago and Rexburg!

Compared to the Los Angeles Temple, they're tiny. I remember my first time seeing a small temple for the first time, the Rexburg Temple. I was surprised, almost shocked at how small it is.

Oh gosh, Chicago's DEFINITELY tiny, I agree. In comparison though, Rexburg's huge. ;) I'm from Wisconsin, so Chicago's been my home temple since I joined the Church... when I got married and moved out to Idaho, I was shocked at how big the Rexburg temple seemed ... until I just saw the outside of Salt Lake's in person, lol.

what shocked me was how small the San Diego temple is compared to how large it appears in photographs. It's still a fairly large building nevermind not having a large assembly room. It's also the only temple that allows you to see the statue of Moroni from inside. I still very much want to see the SLC and DC temples though. Haven't been in either one yet.

Yes Relief Society was mid week. When we first got married I was 18 yo and they called me to teach the mid week lesson. GRRRRRR

There was a lot of driving around to go to meetings.

add Ogden Temple, Provo Temple, ... most of the temples in Utah. There is still laundry in all the temples. I don't know about cafeterias.

They also changed the endowment from being live to a video format. I still love doing a live session at the Salt Lake Temple for our anniversary every year. But I understand the need for the change. It doesn't take as long, there isn't the moving from room to room, but I miss some of the symbolism.

If I'm not mistaken, in the LA Temple, they don't do live sessions, but they do move from room to room. But then, this temple has awesome murals in every endowment room, including the Celestial room.

Chicago is a one-room session; Rexburg moves room to room and has awesome murals as well. There's a deer on one of the walls that makes me think of my husband for some reason -- he likes them, lol.

Louisville, which is a tini tiny temple, you move from room to room. I had no idea that wasn't the case in the chicago temple.
