I actually took my sons out of scouting due to the cost. I just couldn't afford it based on a single mother's income. Having twin boys it was double of everything. The cost of uniforms, having to pay for activities, $100 per scout to go to the week long scouting trip..was just too much for me.

I'm gonna have to read this thread in more detail as I was just called to be the Assistant Cubmaster and Assistant Webelos leader.

Our ward does certain food sales 2x a year for "Friends of Scouting". What I can't stand about it, is that the leaders keep saying that we have our FOS drive. FOS is not an official LDS acronym, so my mind thinks it means something else... :)

Okay, this is kind of the reason I'm here at the board because we recently had a Scout meeting in my ward where the subject of how pricey it is came up.

I know the Church pays for it all, but does anyone have any tips for staying within a reasonable budget?

I seem to recall doing various fundraiser projects back when i was in scouts fairly often before a big event.

If it were church scouting and the policy was then what it is now... I wonder if your boys were registered in the ward unit unbeknownst to you...
