MaMeeshkaMow Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 So you know how when life is hard, sometimes you slip into bad habits, prideful cycles, etc? What about bishops? What if they mess up with something, a sin.....do they have to go to the stake president? What is their support system like? Just curious... Quote
Backroads Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 I imagine it would be more or less the same process we have to go through... I don't see what their position in the church would have to do anything other than who they would confess to? Quote
Palerider Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 A Bishop will talk with the Stake President if he has to confess....same thing if he needs welfare help, he talks with the Stake Pres. Quote
mrmarklin Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Bishops are held to higher standard in that most sorts of sexual immorality will result in excommunication, I believe. The church cannot have a stain on its reputation unlike another religion (which shall remain nameless) that attempted to cover up such irregularities. Quote

bytebear Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Bishops are held to a higher standard, but then so are temple going members. A 18 year old who has premarital sex may be treated less harshly than an overly flirtatious bishop, even if the bishop has not actually had a physical affair. Quote
tubaloth Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Bishops go to the leader that presides over them, which is the Stake President. The Bishop has an Interview with the Stake President almost monthly anyways. (not sure how often). Quote

How about if we stick to the question at hand, rather than gratuitously slamming other churches? Quote
sixpacktr Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 One thing I am learning, as a new Bishop, is that we don't really have that same 'safety net' that the rest of the members of a ward have. My only recourse is to speak to the SP, which is fine, but I have to share my burdens with the Lord more, as I know how busy our SP is, and don't want to just go into his office to 'unload'. Bishops are held to a higher standard than the members of their ward. If Satan can get them, there is a huge hit to the name of the church in that area. The further up the totem pole you go, the harsher and harder the consequences in a fall. Luckily, I believe that the Lord puts extra angels on you to protect you as you ask for it. Otherwise, I don't know how you can survive the onslaught. And it is real.... Quote

HEthePrimate Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 OT, but I like how sixpacktr bends the rules about political neutrality by not actually starting a political thread, but slams Democrats in his signature line. It's not even an argument of substance, but basically an ad hominem.Just sayin'. Quote
