bupanishad2012 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Glad to hear that we LDS people are concerned about Iran, but I would extend that to the whole Middle-East. A Prayer Circle should be started for the whole Middle-East which is a "black hole" in LDS life and teaching. Thanks to those who wrote and let us know more about Iran and area. I have contemplated this for a long time and wondered where the regular news media has been for the last year re Iran. You won't hear from me much, since I am now quite old and have had a good/bad relationship with the Church over the years, leading to excommunication once (now restored, but fairly inactive). BTW, can anyone with a temple recommend go to the Temples just to go there without any "normal" purpose---I mean for prayer and meditation and such. I have been there three times since my restoration, but don't know what to do now. My time is running out. Wha > > > ??? Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I've never tried it, but if you went into the locker room, changed into temple clothing, and then went straight up to the Celestial Room without doing any actual ordinance work--I doubt anyone would notice. But I do think that in general, time permitting, it's better to do an endowment or sealing session. My experience is that the words of the ceremonies, as well as the knowledge of what you're doing on behalf of a real person, tend to make mediation more meaningful. Quote

How did you hear we're concerned about Iran, and who wrote you, and who is "us"?I guess my last question would be, if you're a member of the church, why chose Hindu scripture for your screen name? (Just interested)Welcome to the board. Quote

A temple prayer, according to the order on one's covenant is part of the endownment and meditation concerning that prayer is part of one's time in the Celestial Room. According to covenant other prayers do not require temple attendance or mediation. I would suggest that if you do not plan to pray at the temple according to covenant - in that you wish your prayer to be 100% private - that you pray and mediate outside the temple and not involve those that would otherwise stand with you in prayer. The Traveler Quote

bupanishad2012 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 Just in the middle of a thought, I guess. Like I said, I have once been excommunicated, so I obviously don't know what is going on all the time. Even after going to the Temple, I still go the Investigator's Class with my wife, also a new believer. The reference to Iran is, apparently, from something I read here, but answered in the wrong place. (It's hard to stay on Topic and Post in the correct place---at least for me, it is.) As to the Eastern monniker, it's from my long life of studying and trying various faiths (mostly Theosophy and Buddhism). I'm now an LDS by conviction and choice (what you call "agency"). Have I helped anyone figure out my original Post? I hope so, but probably not. Life has been too long and religion is an extremely complicated subject. Thanks for reading me, and answering my Post. Sorry for the confusion (which follows me almost everywhere I go---esp. on the Net). Yes, I am part of the "we" of things if this is a true LDS site. The Church is true and Joseph Smith was and is a Prophet of God. Now I'll have to digest that! Quote
