Which Bible Versions Do You Have?

I have the Community of Christ's (RLDS) Inspired Version of the Bible.

Can you tell me more about that version?

I believe the LDS have it in their Pearl of Great Price. It is bascially the sections of the Bible where JS felt inspired by God to correct the errors in the Bible. There are several passages that were corrected, however, he did not finish.

Joseph finished it around 1833 or so but it was never printed in his lifetime. When Joseph was killed Brigham tried to get it from Emma but she wouldn't let him have it. She maintained possession of it until 1865 when she gave it to her son Joseph 3rd for the Reorganized Church to print.

A lot of what is added in the Inspired version is contained in the Book of Moses in the PoP. Interesting though the part where God is talking to Enoch and Noah (the everlasting covenant that God made with them) was left out of the PoP. Maybe so it would be easier to sell the New Everlasting Covenant in section 132. Of course I Believe Brigham Young was the author of 132 not Joseph. I don't know where the statement he never finished came from. It is well documented that Joseph stated the "translation" was finished.

A quick note on some of the "translations" that have been mentioned.

Life Application Bible, New International Study Bible, Women's/Men's Study Bible, even the LDS KJV Bible are examples, not of different translations, but of Bibles with different study notes. Sometimes these notes can vary quite signficantly--much more so than versions of the Bible itself.

My own denomination, for example, is largely responsible for the notes in the Full Life Study Bible. Not only are the notes Pentecostal, but the choices of topics are as well.

While there are many translations of the Bible, there aren't that many. Meanings are largely the same. If you want diversity, look at "the fine print." :-)

The LDS Pearl of Great Price only contains selections from the Joseph Smith translation of the Bible, not the entire Bible. The Book of Moses is a selection from the JST Book of Genesis and Joseph Smith-Matthew is from the JST. Some editions of the LDS edition KJV Bible also contains additional selections from the JST in the back.
