LeKook Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Can anyone tell me what this article of faith is based upon? I was sharing the Gospel with her and she read the articles of faith, but she thinks #10 is "out there" and doesn't agree with it. Thoughts? Here it is:"We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory."Thanks!-Lynn Quote
Connie Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Look at the scriptures and topics in the footnotes for that verse. There are some great references there. Quote
JudoMinja Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 This refers to the events of His Second Coming, when He will come in Glory to Rule and Reign. There are many scriptures which speak of the events that will take place at His coming. There are some scriptures which specifically speak of the gathering of the lost ten tribes in both the Book of Mormon and the D&C, but references to this are more vague in the Bible. In particular, some that come to mind with relation to Article of Faith #10- "And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth." (Isaiah 11:12) "Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock." (Jeremiah 31:10) "Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel." (Hosea 1:11) "And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts." (Haggai 2:7) "So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the Lord." (Isaiah 59:19) "Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously." (Isaiah 24:23) "In that day, saith the Lord, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted; And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the Lord shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever."
