skippy740 Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 The Church and Its Financial IndependenceThe last paragraph:Those who attempt to define the Church as an institution devoted to amassing monetary wealth miss the entire point: the Church’s purpose is to bring people to Christ and to follow His example by lifting the burdens of those who are struggling. The key to understanding the Church is to see it not as a worldwide corporation, but as millions of faithful members in thousands of congregations across the world following Christ and caring for each other and their neighbors. This news release is probably in direct response to this (rather sacriligious) article. Sicily510 Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 Thanks for sharing, this is for those whom don't understand the true nature of LDS tithings. Quote
skippy740 Posted July 14, 2012 Author Report Posted July 14, 2012 I like the comment that was posted at this link:The Mormon Global Business Empire - Holy Holdings - BusinessweekImagine that. A religion that preaches self sufficiency and then creates business to that end. What a marvelous idea. Perhaps the feds could learn a thing or two. :) Quote
annewandering Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 It is also amusing that they say this is how mormons make money. Well this one doesnt. Neither does anyone else I know. Tithing is to the church not to make money for us mormons. lol. silly people. Quote

Monson doesn't appear to be rollin' in the dough, from what I've observed. Quote
bytebear Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 The biggest problem with the article (other than the obvious lack of understanding of the LDS system) was that they never asked "why?" Why does the church have farms and ranches? What purpose would the flexibility of that kind of business provide? Why would the church own an insurance company that self insures all of it's tangible assets? Seems like the answers are obvious, but they were never asked. Quote
Vort Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Churches are supposed to be financially strapped and verging on bankruptcy. That's how you know they're righteous. A church run by honest people who are also good money managers and who donate vast sums of money and free labor is obviously a corrupt organization that cannot be trusted. Duh. Quote
