Zombocom Posted July 25, 2012 Author Report Posted July 25, 2012 Isn't it kind of saying though that a church denomination that you personally believe has no Religious Authority can be dismissed in spiritual matters if your ordination is for purely Professional Authority? For example, joining the Salvation Army for humanitarian purposes as opposed to anything spiritual? Quote
skippy740 Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 But you are still a member of that religious organization. I remember being on my mission and other missionaires talking about (but never doing) being baptized in other churches. They would say "Hey, it's just an excuse to get wet, right? They don't have any authority!" But you would still be joining another church, another faith. Similar principles apply, IMO. Quote

For example, joining the Salvation Army for humanitarian purposes as opposed to anything spiritual? Let's strain some gnats. My own denomination is Assemblies of God. During one college summer break I took a job as a camp counselor at a Salvation Army facility. So, I was employed by the Salvation Army. However, I never joined the church. It's a good church with solid doctrine. It's just not my church. To have joined them for some kind of favor on the job, or some perceived ability to be more effective would have been hypocritical of me. Quote
mrmarklin Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 You don not state what State you are from but here in the PRK there is some sort of procedure and licensing that enable "lay" people to perform weddings. This is not any religious deal. Quote
Zombocom Posted July 26, 2012 Author Report Posted July 26, 2012 I'm in Utah where I think they only give power to wed to religious and spiritual leaders and those employed by the State for judicial purposes. I could be wrong, but all this red tape could be another reason why it's discouraged Quote
Backroads Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 As far as I can tell on basic internet researching, Utah may perform a challenge. It looks like you have to be someone important. On "Big Bang Theory" they all just became certified to do it via the internet... Sounds so much easier. Quote
