MorningStar Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 What are the most meaningful Christmas gifts you have ever received? I'm looking for ideas. :) Quote
pam Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 A quilt my mom made me out of scraps of fabric she had used to make clothes for me when I was much younger. What memories some of those brought. Quote
Dravin Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Beefche made me a fleece tie blanket, the fabric she selected was in memory of one of our dates. Quote
Backroads Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 A stuffed rat toy. I had a pet rat named Squishy. He was very smart and would come when he was called. My mom detested him. After he died, that Christmas she bought me a toy that lookd like him. Quote
slamjet Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 My most memorable Christmas gift (yes, I do have ONE good memory of Christmas) is when I got an erector set and a Craftsman toolbox to go along with it. I still have the toolbox (my microphones are in it now) and man, how I loved that erector set. I used to go dig through my old man's junk shed and pull out motors, gears, belts, etc and make all kinds of spinning stuff. But then these day's it all computer stuff so forget it. Quote

MorningStar Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 These are great! Keep them coming. Quote
Iggy Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 One Christmas the box of gifts I got from my two sisters, who lived in the next state, had a Dobie sponge scrubber in it. It was not wrapped- but I figured it was meant to be stuffed into my sock. The sponge I had been using was falling apart, and I had $0.00 money to spend - so that Dobie was a gift from heaven. As I was taught by my Grandmother and Mother, I sent a Thank you letter, thanking my sibs for all of the gifts, including the Dobie. The next year- there was no Dobie included. I waited until all the gifts had been opened Christmas morning, then I called my sibs and asked why no Dobie? Seems like the previous year, the Dobie accidently got into the box of gifts. Every year they would send me a dozen socks, a box of 16 or 32 crayons, a coloring book and a calendar. I appreciated all of those items, and used them all. Well, the crayons were unused for years- then I donated them to a women's shelter for the kids. Any way, from then on, they included a Dobie. I loved it. Beats the hey out of scrubbing sponges! Quote
bcguy Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Well I would say if you can make something that the receiving party would like go for it. Mom made my a piggy back when I was mm 3-4 years old. I still have it :) Grandmother gave me a mineral rock box where each piece was glued down to each area and the type of rock it was. Still own it and showed her the box 35 years later and she was shocked :) This year, brother suggested gift certificates that everyone give everyone else. Not the same as a personal gift. Quote
Guest Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 My father-in-law made me a lazy susan. It has been sitting in the middle of our breakfast table for years. The wood does not match anything in my house, but I wouldn't exchange it for any other lazy susan in the world. Quote
MorningStar Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 I loved the recipes my mom printed out and put in a box for us. That is, until more than a few of them had typos and omissions. Quote
MorningStar Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 One thing I have been wanting to do is record myself reading this book to my sister that she used to make me read all the time until she fell asleep. Of course, I'll have to do the special voices. I just need quiet and a good recorder. My dad actually bought a really good recorder and it might be quiet over there. I have been a little ambitious this Christmas, so we'll see if I have time. Quote
pedrik02 Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 I received a diamond brass-let from my parents on my last Christmas and it is on my hand all the time. I just loved it.. Quote
Bini Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 One year my husband got a 3-foot landscape collage picture frame and insert photos of us from Day 1 of our first date to present day. It was like his version of scrap booking, and it just brought me to tears. I've done similar things for other family members. One year I made a DIY print tee for grandpa with a picture of the grand kids. He loved and still loves it, and that was back in 2003.. Quote
Backroads Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 A few years back, my brother bought two tickets to to Transiberian Orchestra's Christmas concert. His date cancelled at the last minute, so I offered to buy the other ticket from him. We went to the concert, and I wrote him out a check for the ticket price. On Christmas Day, he handed me a box with the torn-up check. Quote
