Family

Simply put....I have always thought the the bottom line was "Family needs to come before the riches of the world" If a man/woman is very successful at work, yet he/she isn't there for his/her family to meet the other needs, then he/she has no real success at all.

FAMILY FIRST :D

Any success that does not include family will end when that generation dies. The only success that will allow the human race to continue and progress is that which maintains, builds and passes that attitude through having and bringing up the next generation.

The quote doesn't say, "If your family and home are a failure, you didn't try."

I think the Prophet of the Restoration--the Restoration being a one-time deal--can be expected to have more extreme demands on his time, substance and energy than we do or will.

Of course, the point of the "failure in the home" quote is to motivate us to focus energy on our families instead of secular or selfish pursuits. It's not that Joseph Smith didn't focus on his family; he did. Just because his family didn't end up as the "ideal Mormon family" doesn't indicate that he didn't fight hard for that result.

Now if Joseph Smith had spent all his time starting an international business, etc... that'd be a different story.

Whew, you don't know what a relief that is!

My patriarchal blessing says I'll be responsible for setting the spiritual tone in my home. I thought that was a gospel principle for the longest time. Then the bishop told me that was not my sole responsibility, but If I'm the only one interested in doing it, then it is. It can be VERY FRUSTRATING. Family nights can be a nightmare. But I feel driven by the promise. I must have "issues"! :whip: "You WILL become an eternal family, whether you want to or not!" lol!

Mwah ahh ahh ahh aaaaaah! Classic. :) Reminds me of the stressed mother who herds her young sons into the car to get to Church on time...they won't cooperate and finally one asks, "Why do we have to go to Church anyway?" The mother loses it and yells, "So we can learn to be a happy family! Now move it or so help me...!"
