And yes, I realize most of you feel I'm stating the obvious.

But I had an opportunity to read The Normal Bar which was based on the results of this giant relationships survey.

Apparently a huge, huge majority of people do indeed want to spend eternity with their partner.

I keep remembering a scene from "God's Army," in which the missionaries approach a couple in a trailer park, and ask with stereotypical cheeriness, "Did you know that you can live for time and eternity with your wife and children?" At this point the background noise of crying youngins and nagging wife rises, the father looks back at his "kingdom," then looks at the missionaries and deadpans, "No thanks."

My seminary teacher told the story of when he was maybe heading out on his mission. He was so excited and gung ho. He got to talking to a guy in the next seat and telling him about the church. The guy was interested so he told him that he could be with his family forever. The guy was no longer interested.

Of course this seminary teacher was the same guy who decided to teach his kids about the evils of gambling since they were going through LV. He got out a quarter, showed it to his kids and then told them. "I am going to go in there and you can see what happens when you gamble." Of course he came back with a huge hand full of quarters. :)

Then there was the time he was desperately looking for a motel room very late at night and saw the really nice looking Lavender Motel in Oakland but that story can wait for another day. :)

One of my first really important questions for the missionaries when they brought up eternal marriage (my divorce was already in progress at that point) was "do I have to?"

After a three night fireside with Dr.Doug Brinley, I KNEW that I wanted to spend eternity with my husband. Before that I knew (little letters, small emphasis), but after hearing the gospel perspective on marriage and eternal perspective from a marriage counselors point of view, my testimony grew tremendously and .... Yup! He's mine! Forever! Poor guy! LOL
