I've also been wondering about this. I'm an endowed member and have been married in the temple, and I really want a tattoo. I understand that President Hinckley advised against it, however the prophets have made comments about some topics (such as intercourse) that are not the Lord's view on such things. I do have a strong testimony and want to keep attending the temple, I'm an artist and tattoos appeal to me. No harsh judgement please.

The counsel against tattoos isn't just the isolated personal opinion of one or two misguided fuddy-duddy muckety-mucks.  Numerous official LDS publications and web pages advise against them.

That said:  no, AFAIK getting a tattoo won't keep you out of the temple.  Neither would cutting, or surgically adding a sixth finger, or taking regular injections of pure crystallized caffeine.  But let's not conflate "I can pass a temple recommend interview" with "I am in every respect doing exactly what God wants me to be doing". ;)

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

I'm very curious to know what you're talking about here. What have the prophets ever taught on the subject of sexual intercourse that you know is contrary to God's own views?

Dear @Frokie<3 Cool name! When God's reprentatives on earth ask you not to do something....Is this wise? Why upset Heavenly Father? God has a way of reining us in when we stray, trials. He does not always give the trials to us but sometimes to our loved ones. Who is in your lifeboat?
