Bomb making classes?

I cant help but wonder who was interested in learning to make these bombs and getting source information on supplies.

When I was growing up, I only knew of two types of people interested:

* Teenagers interested in be cool by learning forbidden stuff.

* Teenagers who thought a good fight against the man may be needed sometime.

(I fell into the first camp, which is why they caught me with a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook when I was 16. It worried the heck out of people until they got distracted by my next cornball antic. My buddy, who fell in the 2nd group and got me the book, is now a software designer in Oregon with 2 kids and a mortgage.)

But now, a few more types of people can be added to the list:

* Homegrown self-radicalized would-be terrorists

* Homegrown would-be terrorists who are radicalized by some other group

* Copycat killers

* Members of terrorist cells who have entered the country to fight for their cause

I guess the real question, now that we don't have to wonder any more, is what do we do about it?

I would be interested. Don't know if I would take a class, but knowing how to make explosives seems like a fun and potentially even useful skill.

I'm not sure LM was trying to limit the group to teens in as much as he was simply limiting it to his experience growing up. I could be wrong though.

Considering bomb making* is at it's heart an engineering challenge I can see how that would appeal to some people and not just those interested in making a boom.

*As opposed to creating explosive compounds which is a chemistry challenge.

Domestic terrorists can come from a survivalist background, sure. McVeigh came from their ranks if I remember correctly - he decided to take action after Waco and Ruby Ridge.

The militant islamists are getting all the press these days, because they're at the top of all the lists. The Uzbekistan national from your link, the Chechens behind the Boston Marathon bombing, Nidal Hasan the Ft. Hood shooter, all the foiled airline plots since 9/11, etc. But yeah, the white power guys, the black power guys, the militant survivalists, the Aztlan! movement, the militant anarchists, folks interested in moving the drug war from Mexico into the US, any of those groups could attract or produce someone interested in building a bomb and using it.

I could not grow up in today's society. As a kid I grew up with Dr. Wernher von Brawn as one of my greatest heroes and aspirations of being an Aeronautical Engineer designing rockets for the space program.

I never got one of my home made rockets more than a few hundred feet off the ground but I was very successful creating things that blew up quite spectacularly. Making a bomb is not rocket science and you do not need a college education to figure it out - this is precisely why dumb as rocks terrorists have chosen home made bombs as the weapon of choice. I would say that 90% of the garages in America have everything you need.

My point? The same as the Book of Mormon. If you want to be safe from enemies that want to kill you there are two things that must be done - and in this order. #1 Encourage society to serve and maintain a social political structure that respects the true and Living G-d. (I do not think the political correct doctrine of separation of church and state should be any kind of a goal beyond the foundation of freedom of religion.) #2. Prepare yourselves, your families, your communities and your country for attracts.

Now at this point I apologize to those that think I intend to be harsh or critical of those that disagree me - but I would only make reference to a careful reading our recent Prophets Proclamation to the World.
