I'm looking for some music for Sacrament meeting on Father's Day. Help!!!! I have a brother and sister singing, they are both in high school, soprano and baritone. Help!!! There arn't a lot of songs written for Father's Day, why is that?

Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Thanks, but most of the songs in the Primary book are geared toward very little children and to mothers and fathers. If the primary kids were singing that day, it would be easy to find a song there are even some that have been in the friend. But unfortunatly those that I have found are very simple and very easy for the kids that I have asked to sing.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for that idea, but I don't think the Bishop would allow that in Sacrament Meeting. (darn)

I haven't listened to that song, so I've no idea of its tempo or anything, but why do you think your Bishop might not allow it in that particular Sacrament Meeting? Why don't you take a copy of the song to your Bishop, let him hear it and read the lyrics, maybe he won't object to its use?

its not so much what the Bishop will allow or not allow.....its pretty plain that music for Sacrament Meeting done in the chapel has to be a certain type.....or in other words....Church approved.....so....when we don't allow something ....we then get to here the comments that others make about their opinions on music....That Bishop is always the bad guy.......LOL!!!!

ok so this is of absolutely no help to the question at hand. but i'm gonna share it anyway. lol every unit i've been in always has the primary kids sing "daddy's homecoming" for father's day. this is my mommy's version.

i'm so glad when daddy comes home, glad as i can be.

clap my hands and shout for joy, and then i grab my keys.

out the door and in the car i wave good bye like this.

toot the horn and blow him what? a great big kiss.

Thanks for clarifying that Pale..I do remember the threads about what kind of music is appropriate for Sacrament meetings in the past on the forums. That is why I suggested that she take the song to the Bishop for him to hear, to see if it was within the boundaries of what is allowed and what isn't.

Unfortunately it is always the perceived Boss around any place who gets the blame for decisions that the majority don't always agree with! lol. :(

In regards to "Daddy's Homecoming", I have a brother that sings that like Elvis - it's grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat! Probably wouldn't go over to well in Sacrament Meeting though.

That was too cute ALmom!

I don't know if you have checked the Sally Deford Music site, but there is a version of O My Father that is sung to the tune of Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing...you can print the sheet music from the site and even listen to it there as well. It is such a beautiful arrangement. It is a hymn, so you won't have to get permission from your Bishop. I sang one of her songs in church a few months ago and when I asked my Bishop about using one of her songs, he didn't even ask which one, just approved it after hearing her name. Go check out her site, listen to all of her stuff, she has arrangements of some hymns and her own stuff that is great!

This is the link to her site: (Pick Choral or solo/duet from the drop down menu on the right side)

and this is the link to O My Father:

This is the song she wrote that I sang in church, it is a beautiful song, but more along the subject lines of Jesus Christ or Testimonies:

Good Luck!
