Had a quick glance at the forum at work a couple of hours ago and saw a thread about some bishop from Australia and how he was having problems with some articles on lds.org. Thought I will check that out when I get home and now cannot find it! Has this been deleted? Has anyone got the link to the article?

So what was actually deleted? From what I remember of my quick reading it said that some new articles had been placed on LDS.org, one being about the first vision I believe. That some Australian bishop was having problems because of these articles. If the articles are on LDS.org how could they be anti?

Because what was linked was the story of the Australian bishop losing faith and doubting and falling away... The claimed cause was the new articles from LDS.org... It was basically a de-conversion story, and that just does not fly here in any shape or form.

Now if someone would like to post a link to the new articles (say like the one on the first vision) and discuss them and their implication that is perfectly fine. But de-conversion story's are not

That is what I was asking for!! Links to the articles so I could check them out as I couldn't remember what they were about other than one being about the first vision and a mention of a conference talk I think by President Uchtdorf.

The LDS church is publishing articles addressing elements in our history often associated with the most common criticisms.

First Vision Accounts

Race and the Priesthood

Plural Marriage and Families in Early Utah

Book of Mormon Translation

The deleted thread linked to a blog from a disaffected unhappy pseudo-member who was engaging in griping and complaining and accusing and basically criticizing the church, its leaders, its history, and its truth claims.

I'm happy to see the church directly engaging in apologetics. I'm more than happy to discuss these things. But as Estradling said, lds.net will not allow itself to be used as a platform for church critics seeking an audience to air their grievances.

Does this help GB-UK?

All the essays referenced by that article is in the Gospel Topics section of Lds.org.

Here's the link to it:

Gospel Topics

Most specifically - the First Vision and Book of Mormon Translation. I can't remember the other one specifically mentioned in that article.

Never mind, LM got the links for you.

Ok, having read the article on the first vision and then the various linked to versions of the vision, I'm at a loss to see how the Bishop was having problems or loss of faith? Was it that particular article that led to the person loosing faith or one of the others?

Was I unclear about the idea that we aren't going to discuss someones de-conversion?

He's actually an active member and holds a Stake calling. The comments were pretty nasty and his editorial attracted anti whiners like a stink attracts flies.

Reading what he said and the articles actually increased my testimony and made me think about how I'm grateful for the gospel.

I think this Church is amazing and awesome. I totally believe its guided by Heavenly Father. The truths...it's all about the truths and this Church certainly has more truth and principles to bring happiness to ones life then any other Church on the face of the Earth. I've never thought the Church (made up of imperfect leaders) was perfect. But it's close.

Mormons are cool nuff said.

We all have our struggles I suppose and this guy has his.

Was the article (blogg) that was removed written by a former bishop from New Zealand? New Zealand... Australia... practically the same place. ;)
