All heirs of salvation both living and dead will eventually repent, bow the knee, and acknowledge that Jesus is the Christ. It may be now or just before the final resurrection but they will turn to God. Before they turn they will suffer in anguish of spirit. Missionary work on the other side will bring them to a knowledge of God and allow them to receive happiness and truth while in the spirit.

At the end of that time they will be resurrected and receive their bodies. The glory or kingdom they receive will be based on the light they accepted while here in the flesh. "They who are of a celestial spirit shall receive the same body which was a natural body; even ye shall receive your bodies, and your glory shall be that glory by which your bodies are quickened." (D&C 88:28) Note the present tense "are quickened". We must obtain glory here and now while on the earth. We must purify these bodies. We cannot purify our bodies in the spirit world for we will not have them. Thus we read, "For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit." (1 Peter 4:6, see also D&C 138:34). In the spirit they will accept the gospel and receive the happiness and blessings of it, however, they will be judged according to the flesh and only receive the glory they were willing to accept while here on this mortal sphere. Again we read, "And after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions, and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation." (D&C 138:59). We must work here and now to progress in glory and receive a higher kingdom. Work towards that end must be done in mortality.

32 Thus was the gospel preached to those who had died in their sins, without a knowledge of the truth, or in transgression, having rejected the prophets.

You didn't bold the part "or in transgression, having rejected the prophets." How can that be ignored?

Thank you, for clarifying what you meant.  In your earlier posts you had made it sound like there was absolutely no repentance after death. And I wanted to make sure that our non-lds friends or those who were researching our church knew that there is repentance after death.  Just what that entails exactly for us, I'm not totally sure, but I do know that God is merciful and He is just.

I didn't bold the rest because I read the bolded part as an interjection. Meaning, without the interjection it reads... Thus was the gospel preached to those who had died in their sins or in transgression, having rejected the prophets.

Which is the only way to reconcile it with the other scriptures. The interjection alters the meaning of the rest of the sentence.

Agreed. As I mentioned earlier, we will receive a reward according to our works. That includes everyone. We cannot assume that because we have received the ordinances that we will automatically be saved. Our works must be celestial in order to obtain celestial glory.

Yes a reward according to work done in this life, or according to work we would have done if we had had the opportunity, or been permitted to tarry. But a person will not be added upon in the spirit world. Instead repentance will simply allow an individual to obtain the reward they qualified for while in the flesh.

Just a couple thoughts to keep in mind-

There are different degrees of salvation, just because someone doesn't make it to the highest degree of glory does not mean they are to be damned to burn and suffer forever. (i figure that when an individual realizes the value of christ sooner or later they will want help)

As partakers in God's plan we get the opportunity to stand in the place of of Christ (being a representative) and take part in some small way of being a savior of sorts in sharing and helping others recieve the gospel and the ordininacnes therein.

Families are probably the highest and most binding of these within the gospel (at least that I can currently think of).

Yes ultimately our paths will in the end be decided by our own desires, thoughts, sayings, and actions................. however, I imagine that at least some things will be easier to choose and do and change with outside help (which i would imagine where families and friends play an important role).
