Traveler Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 From time to time we like to make fun of other for various reasons. Anciently they did not have the term trailer trash - the closest thing they had was Samaritan. That is what Jesus was called. BTW he said that in as much as you have done it unto the least of his brethren you have done it unto him. The Traveler. Quote
Dr T Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 I don't know if that is quiet the same thing Traveler. I know the Samaritans were from a despised cultural group but I don't know why. Maybe someone can tell me what that rift was really all about. Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 FADE IN:EXT. GALILEE -- DAYWe see the Assyrian army dominating the trans-Jordanic Israelites. Large numbers are taken away by Tiglath-pileser (740 BC), and the rest of Israel by Shalmaneser (722 BC). The cities of Samaria are peopled with inhabitants from Babylon, Cush, etc... (2 Kgs. 17:24). The "promised people" are forced to absorb their pagan enemies into their communities. EXT. ENVIRONS OF JERUSALEM -- DAYThe Babylonian army marches towards Jerusalem with all its pagan might (2 Kgs. 24:14). Nebuchadnezzar carries away many Israelites to Babylon (597 BC and again in 586 BC). Many Jews are left in Judaea (preserving the "pure" Jewish blood).INT. COURT OF CRYUS -- DAYCyrus, King of Persia, declares that he will allow the captive Jews to return to Israel (Ezra 1:2). Large numbers of Jews return to the promised land (536 BC) where they rebuild the Jerusalem temple under the leadership of Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah and others like Ezra.By this time, the Jews of Samaria have intermarried with the Assyro-Babylonian "colonists" who had been settled in their cities by the kings of Assyria and Babylon. The Jewish blood has become "mixed" with pagans. The psuedo-Jews of Samaria are delighted to hear that the Jews are rebuilding the Jerusalem temple. They offer to help, but are refused because of their pagan ancestry and "mixed" blood (Ezra 4).FADE OUTIt's all about the bloodlines, baby. The Samaritans were seen as half-Jews or not Jewish at all, and ritually unclean. They started a rival temple on Mt. Gerizim complete with their own High Priest.p.s. I don't know anyone who calls people "trailer trash" for the fun of it. Who do you hang out with? Quote
Guest Mishmash Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 There is a book called "Jesus The Christ" which explains in great detail the cultural, religious, etc. differences of these groups of people...I can't remember off the top of my head but I will look it up.... Quote

Maybe someone can tell me what that rift was really all about. T...The Samaritans were a race of half-breed Isrealites. The ones who chose to "keep their race pure" looked down on the half-breeds as less than human. Also, the Samaritans were worshippers of other gods and did not follow the strict Jewish law...they were dispised and hated by the Jews. The only thing worse than a Roman were those nasty trailor Samaritains!!!!! Oops! I ment: "Billery-tains" Sorry, didn't notice that someone already answerd your question, Dr. T... Quote
Dr T Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Thank you for those. CK, I liked how you set the stage. So would it be a good analogy or an equivalent to that term or different? Doesn't quite sound the same to me. Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 It'd probably be akin to polygamists today who claim they are LDS but they're not. If they asked if they could help us build one of our temples because they worshipped the same God, I'm sure it'd be a, "Thanks but no thanks." Quote
Outshined Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Kinda hard to picture Jesus in a NASCAR hat and tank top being put into the back of a police car while saying, "Can I at least finish my beer?", while a woman in a tube top leans out the trailer door with a cigarette in her mouth yelling "Throw his butt in JAIL!!" Guest Yediyd Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 I was afraid I was going to offend someone!!! Quote
MaidservantX Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Outshined, I haven't laughed that loud and long in a while. And yedi! ha ha Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Well I'm glad that others who condemned my use of "trailer trash" have no problem performing a humorous parody of the lifestyle they supposedly claim is not to be joked about or belittled in anyway. I thought Outshined and Yediyd's comments were funny...but apparently it's only funny when its not me or sixpack saying it. Color me confused. Quote
Guest Yediyd Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 That's the reaction I was afraid would happen...Ck, I was never offended by what you said in the first place. I responded to a thread that did not even have you in it at the time.Well I'm glad that others who condemned my use of "trailer trash" have no problem performing a humorous parody of the lifestyle they supposedly claim is not to be joked about or belittled in anyway.I thought Outshined and Yediyd's comments were funny...but apparently it's only funny when its not me or sixpack saying it. CrimsonKairos Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 'S coo' Yed, I'm not over here crying or anything. I'm just scratching my head after reading that Emma said she thought your post was funny (which it was) after she so thoroughly chastised me elsewhere for tapping into a stereotype which is really all you did. No worries, we're buds, I'm not offended, just confused at Emma's apparent double-standard. Quote
Alaskagain Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 CK, I really wasn't offended either, My original posting was one of mock indignation, it just didn't get interpreted that way (forgot to put that darn smiley face in there) , and I'm sorry. . . . Quote

Alaska, believe it or not...my first post to your thread was sarcastic wit, too!! True, I had some painful memorys of that term...I knew nobody was calling me that up here.I wish people would just chill and get their emotions off their sleeves!!...so we can get back to picking on Dr. T. Color me confused.CK, I can understand your confusion. Let me explain. To me, Yediyd created a cartoon that exagerrated the stereotype "trailer trash," showing how it is ridiculous propaganda, and how gullible those who have believed in it have been. Because of Yediyd's exagerrated features, everyone automatically knows what the woman is, and it shows how "trailer trash" has become part of the national lexicon, a slur that is used when one feels superior over another. There is nothing positive about the phrase and it is nothing more than bigotry. It was knowing that there are people out there, like you perhaps, that are going to believe in this ridiculous exagerration, that makes the cartoon funny.Of course, I am being incredibly presumptuous, because I have no idea what Yediyd had in mind. But that is why I found it funny, and I am not being hypocritical at all.Once again, are there people who live in trailers, do not work, and take advantage of the system? Yes. Are there people who live in trailers, work, and not take advantage of the system? Yes, about ninety percent more than those who don't. Also, do people live in houses, not work, and take advantage of the system? Yes, they do. Do you call them "house trash?" It's time to stop the degrading stereotypes. If someone is abusing the system, say "So and so is abusing the system." Don't say "So and so is "trailer trash."Emma Quote
Guest Yediyd Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! It was just my sick sence of humor.....I promise...not another quip about us Billeries again!!!!!!!!! Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 It was knowing that there are people out there, like you perhaps, that are going to believe in this ridiculous exagerration, that makes the cartoon funny.Whatever. Watch the show "COPS" sometime. Yediyd's "cartoon" scenario occurs on that show with regular frequency. That's why it's funny, because it's real and most of us have seen it on TV or in real life (as I have). Also, do people live in houses, not work, and take advantage of the system? Yes, they do. Do you call them "house trash?" No. As you so astutely pointed out, "trailer trash" has become part of the national lexicon. No one would know what "house trash" meant. Quote
the Ogre Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 ...who condemned my use of "trailer trash"... Sorry dude,I'm pretty TT myself, I didn't mean it as an attack.Aaron the Ogre Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 No prob. To be honest, the only person who really rubbed me wrong was Emma. Everyone else was either lighthearted about it or low-key. Emma went to work on sixpack and me with those rib-cutters that coroners use to perform autopsies. Quote
