Let me translate. Palerider is suggesting that it is easier to criticize and make jokes about politicians you disagree with. So, when Bush was elected in 2000, many thought Rush's show would die, because he did not have the ability to keep his audience laughing while he played cheer leader to the folks in power.

Rush did succeed, and Palerider believes that Rosie would have a hard time, even with Bush, but would never survive having her own people in power--because she is too caustic to be funny as a supporter and encouger.
