pam Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 It is horrible. I was just reading about it. I had not heard about it until I got online. Quote
FrankJL Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Wow thats really sad..Just another thing to worry about....glad there isn't that many bridges in Pittsburgh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_bridges Quote
pam Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 I was just reading the local news. The governor of Utah has ordered all bridges in Utah to be inspected. The sad part about the bridge in Minnesota...even 2 years ago inspectors stated this bridge was structurally deficient. Here is a quote from a CNN article: Federal Highway Administration data from 2006 shows that 24.5 percent of the nation's bridges longer than 20 feet were categorized as "structurally deficient" or "functionally obsolete" (data from Utah and New Mexico was from 2005). pushka Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 Wow, what a terrible tragedy...I thought things like this only happened in movies Quote
Palerider Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 they started checking the Bridges in Missouri and have closed one down around St Louis County Quote
Adomini22 Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 Yeah, that stuff is not good at all. Imagine that thing happening everywhere.......uuughhh Quote
john doe Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 I'm too tired to go through all the articles. What did they say caused it? Did the bridge shift? Quote
pam Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 They don't know yet. They do know the bridge was deficient. They are doing a study to try and determine what caused it. Quote
Fiannan Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Here's an excellent commentary on this issue that I hope gets wide reading:http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=21849 Quote
pushka Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 I can see where it can be taken too far, or the wrong people being held accountable for such tragedies...however, I suppose all tax payers are entitled to hold people accountable to what happens to the money they pay in taxes, and should be able to feel comfortable that the taxes are being spent where they are really needed. FrankJL Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Leave it to Buchanan to use this tragedy to launch into a diatribe of his familiar isolationist talking points. Typical beltway hypocrite, while bashing China and our trade policy, he personally owns several thousand shares of stock in wal-mart, target and various other companies that are highly dependent of cheap foreign imports. According to his own FEC fillings in 1996 and 2000. Also don't be quick to want to pass new "temporary" taxes to fix our infrastructures. Google "Johnstown Flood Tax", if you want to see an example of a "temporary" tax to raise money for a disaster. Quote
Fiannan Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Didn't Hillary sell her stock in WalMart just recently? Quote
FrankJL Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Hillary is even more of a hypocrite. Not only did she own stock in wal-mart, which she did sell off later, only after attacks for the liberal blogoshpere, and the ilks of DailyKos, and others. But to make matters worse she had an upper level advisory board position (I forget the exact title), but do remember she was pulling a healthy six-figure salary from this part-time gig. Quote
