Most people who complain about this particular hymn seem never to have actually considered the meaning of the words. Quote If you could hie to Kolob in the twinkling of an eye, And then continue onward with that same speed to fly, Do you think that you could ever, through all eternity, Find out the generation where Gods began to be? Or see the grand beginning, where space did not extend? Or view the last creation, where Gods and matter end? Methinks the Spirit whispers, “No man has found ‘pure space,’ Nor seen the outside curtains, where nothing has a place.” The works of God continue, and worlds and lives abound; Improvement and progression have one eternal round. There is no end to matter; there is no end to space; There is no end to spirit; there is no end to race. (etc.) The point of the hymn is clear: God is eternal. There is no beginning or end to the works of Godliness. Whether or not one happens to like Brother Phelps' choice of words, the meaning is unmistakable. Edited July 24, 2017 by Vort SilentOne 1 Quote

It is the most "Mormon" hymn ever written. SilentOne 1 Quote

But then they could put their own lyrics to it since it is a pretty old tune (and with small variations in notation has been used in folk songs such as "Unquiet Grave" and more recently "The Star of the County Down"). bytebear Posted July 27, 2017 Report Posted July 27, 2017 Much of the Bible Dictionary and Scripture chapter summaries come from McConkie. His work on Mormon Doctrine seems to be a parallel to this work.https://www.lds.org/ensign/1979/10/church-publishes-first-lds-edition-of-the-bible?lang=eng Quote
