OwenB Posted June 22, 2019 Report Posted June 22, 2019 Hello all. My fiancee is a Mormon ... I am a Christian. We are working to arrange our marriage in a Mormon Chapel in late September. Please can anyone advise how we go about arranging the reading of the Marriage Banns and how long prior to the wedding this needs to be done? Thank you. Quote
Vort Posted June 22, 2019 Report Posted June 22, 2019 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not publish marriage banns. In the US and Canada, marriage licenses are issued by the state, and can normally be gotten very quickly. I assume marriage licenses are provided as a legal alternative to banns in the UK and other places. If you want banns to be asked, you probably should talk with your pastor. Quote
askandanswer Posted June 22, 2019 Report Posted June 22, 2019 Your fiancee is also Christian. Best wishes for your upcoming wedding. Nacho2Dope 1 Quote
Jane_Doe Posted June 22, 2019 Report Posted June 22, 2019 (edited) Useful article for tidbit of information for everyone: "What is a Marriage Bann?" It's a marriage announcement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banns_of_marriage 52 minutes ago, OwenB said: Hello all. My fiancee is a Mormon ... I am a Christian. Hi, I am an LDS Christian lady married to a Evangelical Christian dude. I'm excited to hear about your upcoming wedding to your LDS Christian fiancé. There is no requirement of Marriage Banns (aka wedding announcement) made by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. People just announce their wedding when and how they feel comfortable with, usually going along with the local cultural expectations in that regard. So do things however you and your fiancé feel like! In regards to licensing the wedding: such is done in accordance to your local governments laws, and following that procedure. I'd be happy answer any more questions, either on the public board or via PM. Edited June 22, 2019 by Jane_Doe Quote
