mikbone Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 (edited) Looking for some understanding. Why is this all of the sudden a thing? I read that the last lynching in the USA was in ‘81. I agree the lynching is bad and perpetrators should be charged for murder and hate crimes. I even support the death penalty. I keep hearing people use the term for something other than lynching though. Emmett Till wasn’t hung. He was beaten, mutilated, shot in the head and then his corpse was sunk in the Tallahatchie River. I thought lynching was as follows Edited March 12, 2022 by mikbone Quote
Grunt Posted March 12, 2022 Report Posted March 12, 2022 Lynching is generally associated by hanging because that was the typical action. It more aptly refers to mob justice, but in recent years has been used to refer to any unjust action by a group, particularly towards a protected class. They pretend the word is derived only from racist roots. askandanswer, Backroads, Jane_Doe and 1 other 4 Quote
