I would be boring too!!! Ken ps.I do not have a radio voice just a lousy voice. Quote
miztrniceguy Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 we do not preach...members, male and female, are asked to give talks on specific subjects. this is not preaching Quote
the_jason Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 The church has a lay ministry. This means that all members take part in leading, teaching, and strengthening the body of the congregation. There isn't only one person preaching a sermon while everyone else just sits and listens. Nobody is ever required to give a talk or teach a lesson. You can be fully worthy and never speak publicly. However, the purpose of having members give talks or lessons is so that the rest of the congregation can hear their testimony and learn from them. Even the oldest member of the church can learn from a brand new convert. Also, it helps the person speaking to learn the gospel more, as there is usually research involved. All members benefit from talks that are given. Quote
Guest AutumnBreez Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Yellow, I think that you would find that the Spirit helps you overcome your fears if you let Him. You may not ever be asked. You are not forced to do anything, you do however gain strength and skills when you do a service for others. Don't let this discourage you from coming anyway, there is so much more to be offered by coming. Quote
kona0197 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Count me out on giving a talk. I will not even get up there to share a testimony. No way. Quote
Palerider Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 always remember that you might say something in a talk or testimony that someone needs to hear....don't sell yourself short. Quote
kona0197 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 I'm not getting up there. The world will end before you see me up there. Quote
Moksha Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 I'm not getting up there. The world will end before you see me up there. Public speaking is purely voluntary. I too have been wondering what to do if I was ever asked to speak. Fortunately, they seem to always ask the same people in some sort of random rotating order. Quote
Guest AutumnBreez Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 I'm not getting up there. The world will end before you see me up there. I'm not a super extravert, I am not a super introvert either, I just make myself do it, like a challenge. I know it must be even harder for others that are not in that medium range. It does get easier if you push yourself.I put pressure on myself during the week prior by promising myself I will do it. I will even think about my testimony and how to say it. When I get to fast and testimony Sunday I tend to have more confidence and I do it because I promised myself I would do it. If your worried about judgement from others....what they will think if you cry, etc. forget it, NOBODY will be judging you about any thing, especially those that are too scared to get up there themselves. Extraversion and introversion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaI find inaccurate info within this article- I am probably more extraverted, however I am an artist. I love being with other people, not in means of a party goer/haver though. I don't like large high density crowds. Don't like it over crowded- bit closterfobic in that way. Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 The best thing about giving a talk or teaching a lesson in church is that you are amongst people who know how you feel and do not criticise that as many of them feel the same. We have a member of the High Council who is very nervous about giving talks and really struggles but he is greatly admired by members. We have some people who are natural speakers and very entertaining but they do not look down on the nervous ones, on the contrary they look up to them in admiration for overcoming their fears and getting up there and doing it. FrankJL Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Nice.. I've been there many times. My reserve unit does a lot of training at Ft Indiantown Gap just north of you, and I have relatives that live in Carlisle (think I spelled that right).I'm from Johnstown (you know the place that flooded three times), but I'm going to school in Pittsburgh right now. I transfered here to Carnegie-Mellon from Penn State when I changed my major. Quote
