Hemidakota Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 "...Lord will open a way that you will be victorious over the adversary." [mortality] What does this mean to an individual member? Quote
Guest tomk Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I start with the fact that I am fallen from the presence of God.I cannot trust my intellect or my 5 senses to tell me the TRUTH.The only thing I can trust is my FEELINGS. That is why God speaks to me through my FEELINGS.Cultivating that kind of communication is what this existence is all about, in my view.John 17: 3 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. Our goal is to have lived a life of obedience to what He asks of us, such that we can qualify (not necessarily EARN or DESERVE, but qualify) to return back to the presence of our Heavenly Father. If we do this -- we have, in effect, acheived victory over the adversary. The Lord opens the way for this victory. How does He open the way?He does so by revelation. By using our FEELINGS to speak to us about right and wrong -- about the direction our lives should take. The Adversary is a cunning opponent. He is much more practiced at tempting us than we are at resisting it. It isn't just a "nice idea" to cling unto Christ for protection and guidance. It is crucial to our returning home. If we do not learn to do it, we cannot return home. The way in is IN and THROUGH Jesus Christ. He employs no servant there. HE and HE alone is the Keeper of the Gate. That is my take on it. Quote
Maya Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 That I will soon find something that is better than chiocholate and even more nurishing..... Well I think you got the idea. We all do wrong things and I think this sentance means that IF we want to avoid or fight the advesary, the Lord will help us to win over it! We all are tempted but have a possibility to winnover the temptations! I also think that as we are here on the nett and talk to many people about LDS... if someone is attacking us, it most often turns to our victory, IF well keep our cool. The victory may not be agreed by the adversary, but everyone can see it. When adversary has to start saying personal remarks and using bad language, you are in fact winning! Quote
Hemidakota Posted March 11, 2008 Author Report Posted March 11, 2008 I don't want to divulge to much on a brother's PB but I seldom see this statement. I will add some further clarity and stopped there [i have remove the name]:...in life you will encounter many trials and temptation as it is expected in life for the Lord has said, “My people must be tried in all things, otherwise they are not mine.” Because of your strength and faithfulness and knowledge of the gospel the Lord will open a way that you will be victorious over the adversary. And I promise you, xxxxxxxxx that if you do all the things that you are commanded to do, walking before the Lord in humility and gratitude, the Lord will bless you, xxxxxxxxx, that you may come forth on the morning of the first resurrection Quote
rameumptom Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 I see that Patriarchal Blessing as being standard. If we stay faithful to God and strive to overcome, then the day will come that through Christ's atonement we will overcome the adversary. Our spiritual strength will be such that Satan (definition: adversary) will be bound so as not to be able to tempt us. Later, the day will come when he will have no impact on us, whatsoever. But for now, he's used to give us temptations and trials, so we can build our spiritual muscles, and learn to rely on Christ. Quote
inthearmsofsleep Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 Yeah, I don't see anything unusual about that. Mine says similar things, probably some that you'd consider even more unusual on that subject.... but anyway, I think that statement means gaining mastery over our thoughts and actions, so that no matter how much Satan tempts us we will not fall. That's how we're victorious. Quote

My daughter, my husband and myself have much the same, although worded slightly differently, in our Patriarchal Blessings. Quote

Packer, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: “The Holy Ghost communicates with the spirit through the mind more than through the physical senses. This guidance comes as thoughts, as feelings, through impressions and promptings. It is not always easy to describe inspiration. The scriptures teach us that we may ‘feel’ the words of spiritual communication more than hear them, and see with spiritual rather than with mortal eyes.” Quote
Elgama Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 "...Lord will open a way that you will be victorious over the adversary." [mortality] What does this mean to an individual member?for me the Lord does this on a daily basis - I have ADHD, and Dyspraxia on top of my FMS (although its possible they may all be MS), means I live my life very much by the seat of my pants, I don't plan much haven't got the energy too. I remember one day I was going for an exam the bus left early and I was going to miss it - our next door neighbour stopped and offered me a lift he never did before or after that day. Things like that happen all the time little things that throw a huge amount of light on a life that at times could be very dark.My PB contains the line that I will hold my head up high at the last day - I love that. My son's naming blessing said he would stand straight and tall until the last day.-Charley Quote

They are Father's words. Quote
Hemidakota Posted March 17, 2008 Author Report Posted March 17, 2008 Tom, for the those of the CFB, it varies with this group of souls, as the Father may speak directly to the individual and the Savior will do it from time-to-time. Holy Spirit will confirmed the presence or what is being given. Others, it seems then by a few here, this is statement is not so unique. Thanks. :) Quote
THIRDpersonviewer Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Sounds like 1 Nephi 3:7 The Lord provides a way but we have to do our part. Laman and Lemuel wouldn't have obeyed had it not been for the prodding of Nephi(and the angel).(in this instance). For the record, that is personal sacred text and should be viewed as if it is knowledge gained in the temple. Not to be spoken outside the temple walls. Your body is a temple also. Quote
