MorningStar Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 What do you do for insomnia? I don't feel like I can sleep tonight for some reason, maybe because I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Or maybe because I'm dreading going to bed because I keep waking up feeling like I have a cold. Remember how you used to be able to find a good movie in the middle of the night? Now it's all infommericals. That is so annoying. I guess if those won't put me to sleep, nothing will. My husband and I always make fun of the Magic Bullet commericals. "You can make this in one, two, threeeeeeeeeeeeee seconds!" Um, you held the three out a little long people ..... I do have to say though, my Shark Vacuum was pretty awesome until the battery died. My mom gave it to me. Quote
WANDERER Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 I find the David Letterman show (beamed to us at midnight) works ; ) . Beyond that, chamomile tea, warm milk or lemon and honey in warm water. Patting a purring cat asleep on your lap. Lavender oil near your pillow. Yep, it's the simple things in life : ). Quote
Aphrodite Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Try relaxation techniques like visualisation or yoga in the daytime. You can use the visualisation techniques at night to try and help you sleep. Also, exercise regularly if you dont already, as that can help regulate your sleep pattern. Quote
skalenfehl Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Melatonin! (3 or 5 mg pills) Two hours before bedtime just to be sure I'm sufficiently sleepy to drift off when my head hits the pillow instead of deal with the wheels in my head spinning a million mph. Quote
Traveler Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 50 miles on a bicycle always worked for me. The Traveler Quote
bcguy Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Seems not eating after 6 pm, no snacking and agressive exerersize a hour before heading off to bed help a great deal. Also did hear melatonin works. Why is it when we are under a gread deal of stress and cry our eyes out we sleep like a baby and feel extremely well rested? I experienced a moment or two in my childhood where that happened. Quote
MormonSoprano Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 reading very boring or incomprehensible books (suggestions: "The Websters Dictionary", "Quantum Physics" or even "Seven Secrets of a Happy Marriage") However, if you consider what time I am posting this....Time for Ambien! Quote
Elgama Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Hypnosis CD for Sleep Disorders and Insomniathis works so well for me I can't use it until Gabey is sleeping better lol but it knocks me out, I did lend it to a missionary once though and he said the voice reminded him of a difficult companion so it didn't work lol, it did relax him but he wanted to throw the tape player at the same time. Its a guided meditation or self hypnosis thing I am sure there will be a US equivelent-Charley Quote

SMG Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I second the dictionary method! Or, if you're a student like me, pull out a biiiiig thick text book and just try to read as much as you can in a go. I'm out like a light by the time I'm halfway through a chapter in my psych book. Quote
