RogerHendrixJr Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 This is not "religious" related, but my DH is an MD, and Green Tea is actually not that great for you. It can really mess with your heart. Just an FYI. You usually hear about it being so great from homeopathic avenues... MD's really don't like the effects of it on the human body. When I was a missionary we taught that the Word of Wisdom meant to avoid -Tobacco-Harmful Drugs-Alchohol-Coffee-TeaI have known of members who drink herbal teas like peppermint tea, etc. What teas are we to avoid and what teas are ok? Black tea is the one I know of to avoid. I find it interesting and ironic that there is something called "Mormon Tea" which is of the ephedra genus. Green Tea HP is a new health product with many benefits, but is this categorized in the teas that falls under the Word of Wisdom?Yes, greenteahp is a health drink. I believe that is the idea of the word of wisdom, to live a healthier life, to take care of your body. So ---- I assume that it would fall in line with the word of wisdowm Quote
Chibihippo Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 http://greenteahp.com/Green-Tea-Lesson-7.aspx?ID=wwwMDs do not support the standard consumption of redmeat, diet coke, sodas or calories that the average Mormon consumes.I believe that greenteahp is misusing scientific literature to sell a product. The FDA conducted a very thorough analysis of green tea and CVD/cholesterol to decide whether a Qualified Health Claim could be made. The eventually declined to do so. When they review scientific literature they weight studies based on several factors. For example one of the problems they found with the first study cited on greenteahp's website was that there was no validation of the survey so there is no way to produce a valid scientific conclusion from the data. It is also a problem with the third study cited. The second study on that site is the most valid of the ones listed. It would be classed as an observational study. It does show a correlation but it disagrees with with three intervention studies (studies specifically designed and controlled to test the relationship of green tea and CVD and cholesterol) therefore there is no credible evidence to support the proposed claim that green tea lowers cholesterol or helps prevent CVD.You may read the FDA's entire review of the scientific literature here. There are other letters too.It would be nice if green tea were the miracle/wonder juice that a lot of "health" retailers are making it out to be but, in my opinion, the fact that green tea can't get a single qualified health claim through the FDA with the numerous studies done on it shows that it isn't as great as consumers think it is. I've been trying to find an enlarged photo, but have not been able to do so. Quote

bboy13 Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Might the person in position be interpreting scripture incorrectly? Tea is good for you. This is from Brigham Young. Found in Journal of Discourses Vol 13, page 277:And this Word of Wisdom prohibits the use of hot drinks and tobacco. I have heard it argued that tea and coffee are not mentioned therein; that is very true; but what were the people in the habit of taking as hot drinks when that revelation was given? Tea and coffee. We were not in the habit of drinking water very hot, but tea and coffee—the beverages in common use. And the Lord said hot drinks are not good for the body nor the belly, liquor is not good for the body nor the belly, but for the washing of the body, &c. Tobacco is not good, save for sick cattle, and for bruises and sores, its cleansing properties being then very useful. Quote
