Laws do change. I'm sure all communities have laws on their books that do not mean anything today. Change is part of society. Society always evolves, it never stays the same for very long. It appears that Luther and Calvin were incorrect in their interpretation of Onan's sin. It was not about birth control it was about the levirate marriage rules. You may believe whatever you wish regarding the biblical morality of having no children - that is your choice - but it doesn't mean you're correct. If you and your spouse wish to have as many children as you want go right ahead, but you are in no position to preach to others about following the same path. It's a personal matter, you're interpretation of scripture means nothing to me. I think the Jewish leaders at the time were more concerned with Jesus equating himself to God. That's the great thing about choice, we all have it. Whether the choices mankind makes are wrong or right, he still has that choice. Choose whatever you see is right for you, but I don't think you're in a position to say "Everyone should do what I do, because it's important to me." Make your own decisions and respect others to let them make their own. M. ← Maureen, I agree with your comments here as well.

Yes but, how would you agree for your wife to receive this sperm donation. Would you only allow for artificial insemination or would you allow for them to have sex with each other? So Fiannan, I'm curious - why is it important for you to follow something that is set up by an existing precedent? If people didn't try new things for the first time, where would all the inventors be? So you think that because some men in the 16th century decided that they see certain things as rules it should follow today that those rules still exist. But you have doubts that what you believe God commanded to happen in the 19th century would not happen again, because it's not the norm. News flash, culture in the 16th century is not the norm for the 21st century. M. ← Good points Maureen! Also if he would look at bizabra's post ... polyandry is very common in Tibet and the article tells of their reason for it. For me personally, one loving husband and one loving wife and their offspring are the only way for me.

ldsgurl, I will not let you suffer any longer. I want to let you know that this was a true story. I also want to thank everone for being such good sports about waiting for the answer to the monster. When the monster was on my back ...I tried to turn my head and see what was clinging to my back. As you remember ... when I tried to turn, the claw like sticking in my back increased. I thought I had seen a whitish/yellow color however. With that color in mind ... I then thought it must be a very large rabid cat or maybe even a cougar. When I got the cycle under control and slowed down ...it first appeared to me that the monster was coming around my left side to attack me. But when it landed on the road and rolled past me I knew better. The whitish/yellowcolor was there alright ... I hadn't been mistaken about that. My monster turned out to be about 3 1/2 feet tall and nearly round. My embarrassment came when I saw that the monster was a 3 1/2 foot tumbleweed that the strong wind had first blown on back and wedged itself between the cycle seat and my shoulders , and now that same wind was blowing it down the road ahead of me. :)

Toasterofen & Mormongirl, A small branch or branch is a very good guess, but I don't think it would roll after it fell to the road unless it was round. Good guess nevertheless. :)

ldsgurl, It wasn't a bat, but it could have been. They frequently carry rabies too. The reason I put the bats on my post was because it was late Halloween night when I typed it out ....and I thought that it would convey a scary sensation to the reader. :)

Mormongirl, I'm glad that you started this thread on scary stories. I have enjoyed reading the post from it. :)

Question For The Boys
begood2 replied to stellati's topic in Young Single Adults, College and Institute
stellati, I wouldn't lose any sleep over the guy. All men are not alike. Just as all women are not alike. There could be 101 reasons why the guy didn't accept the invitation to go out. If he refused the offer, but was very polite about it... he earns some points in my book for showing respect for another person's feelings. If on the other hand he made fun of you or put you down in a sarcastic tone for asking, then he has shown you that , he is a jerk and not worth a second more of your time on. If the guy said; "I'm sorry I can't go out with you on Friday because I have other commitments, but I'd sure like a raincheck"... then I might just keep him on the list. Disruptive, Show some respect when you talk to a lady! Your giving guys a bad rap with your immature and sexist comments. We have a few posters that are either: 1 very immature, 2. start posting before they turn their brain on., or 3. deliberately try to hurt/make fun of someone. Don't join there ranks by emulating such poor behavior. Stellati, I bet that you are a very attractive woman, but even if you aren't ... a good "mature" young male can appreciate the beauty of the woman within. And as far as the immature others ... that are, oh so visual only, ... that's there loss, not yours. -
Pushka, Come to think of it ... your right!

Jenda, Happy Birthday!

Setheus, I enjoyed reading about your scary experience. I'm glad that things turned out for the best. I would sure hate to have to go through that much pain however.

Question For The Boys
begood2 replied to stellati's topic in Young Single Adults, College and Institute
In this day and age, I don't find it uncommon at all for a girl to ask a boy out. I've had several ask me out. Sometimes I would accept and sometimes I would not. It all depends on the situation at the time. I also know what it's like to ask and be rejected, so for that reason, if I couldn't or didn't want to go I would tell them so politely so as not to hurt their feelings. If I couldn't go that time, but I would like to in the future, I would let them know that as well. -
Mormongirl, That is really sad to read about the tragic loss of Jedds Capps. It's too bad that a large number of people, both young and old alike slip through the safety net of concerned, caring and loving crisis intervention specialist or just a close friend that they feel comfortable enough with to seek help. I feel sorry for the family ... I know that it is going to be very hard to deal with. I'm also concerned for the mental health of the younger sister, who discovered him. I will pray to the Lord to give the family the strength and guidance to deal with this tragic loss of a family member.

A few years ago, the media, especially the newspaper was warning people to be on the lookout for wild animals that they might encounter. People were warned to be especially leery of: wild animals acting sick or tame, or being up and about during the day when they are normally nocturnal creatures. The reason they gave for all of this was because there had been several reported cases of rabies among skunks, cats, raccoons , a few dogs and a horse all in a few months of one another. All week long students in school were talking about so and so having to go and get rabies shorts because they had been bitten by some strange dog or cat, and how painful the series of shorts would be. One day after school, just before Halloween, I decided to go for a ride on my motorcycle out in the country. I usually ride my road bike but it was already getting late and I wanted to return before dark. As I rode along .... I noticed that the wind was really coming up and I thought to myself that I was glad that I took my motorcycle instead of my bike because the pedaling would really be difficult. I rode on for awhile and then I saw an old abandoned farm house that picked by curiosity, and I found myself wanting to stop and explore it. I got off my motorcycle, and as I approached the house part of me kept saying to go home, but the other part said that this is an eerie, scary old house and that it would be fun to look around. :) At this time the wind was really blowing hard and it was causing all kinds of strange snapping, swooshing, and crackling sounds from the house, the trees and the many over grown bushes and weeds in the yard. It was at this point that I must admit that I started getting a stronger sense of alarm for being there alone as darkness was approaching. So I quickly decided that it was time to go home. I walked out of the house and got back on my cycle ... I took one look back at the house and saw that the setting sun gave it and eerie orange glow and I was glad that I was leaving. Then, just as I started off on my cycle, the blurry image of something and with a strange sound coming from it were being perceived right behind me. Then in an instant something was sticking me in the back. My mind began to race with thoughts of a rabid animal having leaped on my back, hanging on with it's sharp claws and ready to bite me any moment. I tried to turn my head and shoulders to see what was on my back but any little turn and what I perceived to be claws sticking me in the back got worse. Then in another instant a twinge of panic went through my body and I found myself gripping the throttle so tightly toward me that I caused the cycle to accelerate rapidly causing it to do a wheelie. This scared me even more because I had never done a wheelie on my cycle before and I was sure that now I was going to be bitten and crash. After traveling what seemed like half a mile doing a wheelie, ( I know it was a lot less, it's the feeling), I somehow managed to slow the cycle down and get it under control without crashing. Then a strange thing happened ... the terrifying creature on my back released it's gripe and came flying around my left side, as I braced myself for the enviable attack, it fell to the road and rolled past me. I had to look twice before I could discern what it was. When I recognized my monster for what it really was ... I was first very relieved and then very embarrassed for having let my mind play tricks on me that way. Do you want to know what the monster on my back was? If you do post yes and give a guess, then after a few days have past to give others a chance to guess I will tell all. :reaper: :scared: :freaked: :freaked: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

WOW! That would be scary Lindy. You and your daughter must have someone looking out for you.

I have no more respect for a rapist than I would a rabid animal.

Although I don't know you other than on this board, SF, I think I can say that at least in my eyes, from what I know of you, you are a wonderful wife, mother, and woman. If others can't see that, that is their problem. Very well stated john, I also feel this is true of SF. :) PS. Lindy too. :)
-
If a man had a wonderful wife :) .... why would he need another one?
-
Lindy, I just remembered another tax besides vehicle license and registration. It is a wheel tax .... the money is suppose to be used to fix streets. A larger or heavier vehicle pays a bigger tax than a small vehicle because it's suppose to be more destructive to the roadway. As an example the wheel tax for a compact car would be $12.00, a pickup truck would be $20.00, and a bus would be $35.00. I wouldn't be surprised to see a fresh or clean air tax next.

dizzysmiles, Do you mean "plebeian" on the top left hand corner? If so it is basically a level that you have reached in direct proportion to the number of post that you have made so far.
