  1. Would you be in favor of polyandry as well ... in which a woman has more that one husband? How would you feel if the word female were replaced in each of your statements with the word male? I wonder how wonderful a male would have to be to accept it?
  2. Lindy, Besides real estate taxes, we have special assessment taxes when new sidewalks or street paving is done. In the case of street paving ~ let's say that you live on a north/south running street and they pave a perpendicular east/west street, then the corner property is taxed at the highest rate and as you go down the north/south street each succeeding house is taxed less until you are past 1/3 of the block and the rest of the properties on the block pay no special assessment. We also have a new (since 01/2005) street light assessment tax for each electric utility meter. The city owns the utilities, but they have separate budgets. The city use to pay for the street lighting, but to lower their budget ... they passed the bill on to the utilities and the utilities the passed it on to the customers. Besides dog license, we also have a cat license and other pet license.
  3. Snow, Thanks, for posting the lesson notes. I made a copy of them to study.
  4. johndoe, When I first joined this forum, I worried about sharing personal information as well. I have since been less careful and I thank you for the advice.
  5. Snow, This is very interesting. If it would not be to much trouble, I would like to see the lesson notes posted.
  6. Fiannan, I made the example as simple as I could to show that it would increase. I have no problem with large or small families as long as the children are taken care of properly. There are over 6 billion people in the world. There are about 12 million LDS. I don't think the 2 offspring from my example would have trouble finding mates without being cloned or marrying each other. If you look at the numbers I did not count the mates of the offspring in the running total of people. The average life span in the US is about 78 years. To get that figure the ones that died earlier from cancer, heart disease, accidents, wars, etc. was combined with those that lived longer than 78 years. The total years lived was added up and divided by the number of people, to get that average. I hope that you can see/understand what I have stated ... if not then I choose to respectfully agree to disagree and end it at that.
  7. Begood2, Your post caught me off guard...All this time I thought you were female. ← No lol, I'm definitely male. About 4 months ago another poster had thought that and I posted a correction that you must have missed. Also around that same time we had two young girls posting and they wanted my e-mail address and I told them that it was not safe/wise to talk by e-mail, but I would talk to them in the forum.
  8. Fiannan, If one man and one woman at age 24 had two children and we used this as a repeat pattern every 24 years ... then in another 24 yrs. the 2 offspring each have 2 offspring apiece the total number of people would be 4 adults and 4 children ... in another 24yrs. these new 4 offspring each have 2 offspring apiece and the total (assuming no one died prematurely) would be 8 children and 8 adults-2 adults or 6 adults ( the 2 original adults since at age 96 they are probably dead. in another 24yrs. the 8 offspring would have 16 children and the 14 adults -2 offspring adults would leave 12 adults. This population growth is a geometric progression. Just because people's average lifespan is only about 78 years, even having two children apiece, there would still be an increase in the total as the years went by.
  9. Fiannan, I love the present LDS church, but I would have never joined if the practice of polygamy was still going on today. When I marry, I only want one wife to love and share my life with ... just as I would not want to share her with someone else if the shoe was on the other foot.
  10. Michelle, Welcome! I hope that you have a good experience here. :) I want to let you know that all the posters are not LDS however. Most of the posters are respectful of each other regardless of religion, but a few are not.
  11. I'm single and live alone, but I do have a girlfriend that I like. I was going to college, but I took some time off to earn more money. I will go back as soon as I can. I have two pet raccoons, (Tom & Jerry), that I raised from babies. They remind me of a cross between a dog and a cat by the way that they act. They are very tame, litter box trained and know simple commands like sit, stand, hide, bring/get, lay down, come etc. Their number 1 favorite treat hands down are grapes, then bananas and watermelon. For meals they eat cat food. I also have a cat and her four kittens that were starving and adopted me this summer. I don't like to watch sports on TV except boxing or some of the Olympics events, but I do like to play most sports. My favorite ones are: karate, basketball, road bicycle racing, canoeing, volleyball, bowling, horseshoe pitching, running/jogging and weight lifting.
  12. dizzysmiles, Welcome to LDS Talk! I like your positive attitude. I wish you and your family continued happiness! :)
  13. I think that the church helps us to set goals for ourselves. We learn of God's plan for us, and why we are here. For me it gives comfort and meaning to my life. :)
  14. It's amazing that they found both pages on your hard drive! Good for them! ← Ouch!Jason, why do you pick on your sister like that? You know that your mother told you guys to get along with each other or no video games for a month.
  15. Lindy, I thought that your post was great! :) I see you as a very kind and compassionate "Lady", that we can all learn a little wisdom from! :) I also agree with you that this thread was started with happiness for one of our guys coming back home safely to the USA. Maybe we can return to this topic and wish all the brave men and women serving in the military, a safe return!
  16. Shanstress, I wasn't referring to your post, but to "Ben's". Boy, for a 80 year old you are sure spirited! I might be wrong, but I thought that when Setheus made the comment about the wife it was to give advice to someone because of marriage problems and at the time he thought being married ... would give a better understanding/view of the situation.
  17. It is amazing and sad how a little gossip about someone .... whether it is true or false can create doubt about the character of the person in our mind so quickly. I think that most of us are guilty, (at times), of judging others on so scant amount of evidence, but would certainly not want others to judge us that way. I have friends that are serving in the military, (from my home town), and I worry about hostile enemy situations that they may encounter while being deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan or other areas of the world. Setheus, My belief in your integrity has not changed. I like "Lindy's" earlier comment/meaning .... you guys, stay safe and watch out for each other over there, and we will cover your back!
  18. BenRaines, I presume this is your idea of a joke. I feel that Setheus has high integrity and he would not try to deceive us that way.
  19. Please, I thought that story was great! :) I laughted so hard that it brought tears to my eyes! :) Thanks for sharing.
  20. Eros, Quaz, Massilliamo, and Setheus, I want to say thanks, to you guys for serving our country so admirably well. :) Eros, Welcome home! I'm glad that you will soon be safely home. Best Wishes! :) Quaz, Massilliamo, and Setheus, Stay alert, and watch out for each other. I want to hear about each one of you returning home safely when your deployment is over! May God watch over and protect you guys! :)
  21. Marsha, That RAOK idea is so c :) o :) o :) l !
  22. Marsha, I'm sorry to hear about your brother having cancer. Doug, I'm hoping for the best in your cancer treatment. I want to let you know that I will pray for you and your family. Best wishes for a positive outcome! :) Marsha, I agree that there is power in prayer!
  23. Heather, I hope the you had a nice Birthday!
  24. Azmom, Best wishes for your special day! :)
  25. Azmom, I'm sorry to hear about your brain cancer. I'll pray for you and your family! :) May God bless you and your family! :)
