There are a lot of peole who I think are great and reasonable, with whom I don't share the same political views. But what about his speech is so "incendiary and extreme"? Is it because he is passionate about the things he says? Is it because he can get emotional? Is he telling lies? Is he trying to incite people to violence, or to the extremes? If so show me some examples, that way I know what to respond to. I'm not interested in the character attacks (he's a cry baby, a clown, etc...). Regards, Vanhin

MoE, Being familiar with Glenn Beck's radio show mostly, and an occasional consumer of his TV shows from CNN to FOX, I don't think Glenn Beck's program falls into that catergory of "incendiary and extreme speech". Is that a specific critiscism you have of him? That he is extreme and incendiary in his speech? How so? The name calling is quite predictable when it comes to his critics. References to the name calling among his critics are actually a regular feature in the comedic part of his program. It seems like those who don't like him have a hard time with specifics and end up simply calling him names. I was actually surprised to see that you of all people would be like that. I always considered you to be one of the more reasonable debaters out here. You are ofcourse welcome to have your opinion, so I won't badger you about it. Regards, Vanhin

I think what Gwen is saying is that even though someone like Glenn Beck might be inspired to say or do things from time to time, not everything they say and do is the will of God. The same can be said about anyone, including the prophet. I think she is also pointing out that we all know that only the prophet speaks for the whole Church. Glenn Beck has never made that claim, and neither did the OP, so I think it was a good reminder to those who are participating on this thread. I'm with you on wanting to see the specifics from the critics of Glenn Beck, because I don't recall anything huge that he has said that was inaccurate - that he hasn't corrected himself after someone pointed it out that is. I guess it would be ironic if BP did not accept responsibility for the clean up. It appears that they are accepting responsibility for the clean up (see Source). Though the investigation is still ongoing, it appears to me that the offshore drilling contractor Transocean Ltd., is most likely responsible for the spill. Regards, Vanhin

I would go to a sleep specialist, as suggested, and have a sleep study done. It could change your life. I have sleep apnea, and I sleep with a CPAP machine. It's main job is to maintain positive pressure by adjusting itself when you breathe in and out. It gets tuned to the specific pressure that you need based on the sleep study, and modern devices include humidifiers (which I wouldn't go without) and settings to adjust for altitude and stuff. Real fancy. Though it took a little getting used to, the CPAP (mask and all) has made a huge difference in my life. I actually sometimes zonk completely, where I wake up 8 hours later but I don't remember sleeping at all (no dreams or anything). Like when I was a kid - fully rested. For me the nasal pillow type masks are the most comfortable, but another type might work better for you. One thing is for sure, the CPAP ends my snoring completely, and I have servere sleep apnea. God does direct faithful LDS and non-LDS alike in many endeavors, including their day jobs. I listen to Glenn Beck on occasion and I agree with him. I am glad he is doing what he is doing. There have been latter-day saints in the past who have filled similar roles, and though they don't speak for the Church, they are good examples of latter-day saints being active in bringing about good things in the world. Take Helmuth Hübener, Ruddi Wobbe, and Karl-Heinz Schnibbe for example. During WWII they distributed materials in Germany that denounced Hitler and Nazi party. All three were latter-day saints, and Hübener was ultimately executed and is the youngest opponent of the Third Reich to be sentenced and executed at age 16. I'm glad there is someone nutty enough to look into some of the shady things going on in government. His program has been instrumental in exposing revolutionary communists like Van Jones, and spurring political activity in many Americans whoa are now involved in the 9/12 project and Tea Parties. Largely because of his program, people have begun to study the founders again, and the Constitution, and to be aware of the political landscape. All super good things in my opinion. Regards, Vanhin

brooks, I don't know whether anarchy properly describes you or not, but as far as the subtance of what you claim to believe in, I don't see anything at first glance that is out of harmony with the teachings of the Church. In fact, I feel the same way as you do about many things. HoosierGuy, Our freedom is derived from the light of Christ in us coupled with an environment that God places us in to act for ourselves. In short it comes from God. The U.S. Constitution establishes a government with limited power - only barely enough to keep the peace and protect our borders, but ultimately to leave the people alone to live their lives as they wish. Our rights are not derived from the Constitution. The Constitution simply recognizes those rights as inherently belonging to mankind, and secures them from tyranny. The Declaration of Independence states the following: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..." (The Declaration of Independence) The government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed! We are the guardians of liberty that the almighty God has granted us. "A primary object...should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? and what duty more pressing...than...communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country?" Dravin, The skillet method allows you more direct control, and it portrays you as the man of action that you are. Plus, it gives that perfect texture to the sear that can only come from direct contact. In fact, I prefer to sear my sirloins on a hot iron over grilling most of the time. And, don't forget the sauce from the drippings. A nice side dish to go along with the steak is garlic spinach. Just briefly saute a bag of fresh baby spinach and minced garlic (fesh or from a jar) in olive oil using something like a wok (because it has tall sides). Towards the end, toss in a pinch of salt and freshly cracked pepper. Simple, and oh so good. You can do a similar number on asparagus. Vanhin

Then... you see all the good drippings in the pan after the steak is fried? Well deglaze the pan with some red wine, or if you ar not in to that, some balsamic vinegar, and reduce it a little. Then pour in a cup of heavy whipping cream and stir it until it reduces and carmelizes into a dark thick sauce. You can then spoon some of that taste sauce right on top of your steak. Delicious! Make sure the steak is room temperature, season it with salt and pepper. Heat up a thick bottomed skillet, or even a cast iron skillet (my favorite) to medium-high, and slap a dab of butter in the skillet and let it melt covering the bottom of the skillet. Place your steak in the skillet when it is hot to make sure it gets a good searing. Let it cook 3-5 minutes. Only flip it once. Put a little more butter in there if you want at this point. Then sear it again on the other side and cook until it is done. You want each side of the steak to look a little like this. Actually, a lot like that. :) It will be yummy I promise. This will make a medium to medium rare steak. If you wnt it cooked more ( I don't know why you would) just lower the temp a little and let it cook on each side a little longer. Regards, Vanhin

Making death threats is beyond insensitive towards my culture. It is a greater offense than making a likeness of a person, be it the prophet of Islam. And we are not talking about just mere threats. These guys carry out their threats with religious fervour. I'm not going to walk on eggshells around a radical murderous faction of Muslims, for the fear of getting killed because of words and pictures. However, that doesn't mean that I am going to go around being offensive towards them intentionally, but I won't stand for their "more" offensive behavior of threatening and carrying out threats towards other people. This may not be a real situation, and might be part of Steve's made up world, but the truth is this stuff really happens. Regards, Vanhin

I didn't imply anything about physical weariness or fatigue. I only implied things that bring me joy. Like hard (godly) work, resting, family, Finland, and sauna. We weary God with our sins every day (Mal. 2:17), and I'm sure He appreciates a little R&R with his family, and Sauna with walls made of great Urim and Thummims, so that he can keep up with the comings and goings of eternity. And I'm saying it doesn't matter what was said, and threatening people is unacceptable. And even if it was in their scriptures, to put people to death for this, it is unacceptable to me. In case people haven't been paying attention to the news, the threats to people offending the zealots in the past with depictions of Muhammad, have been violent. Here's just a sample. South Park Threats: Creator Facing Violent Threats for Muhammad Edpisode - KTLA So, South Park has also ridiculed Mormons. Do any of you want to hurt them? No matter what the OP's intentions were, they shouldn't be allowed to threaten people. The world community should be in lockstep against such behavior, and not resolve to appeasement like we are seeing in most cases. Regards, Vanhin

It's the same exact thing as I tell my children, if one continues to annoy the other to the point that they just can't take it any longer, the are still not justified in threatening or actually hitting, biting, pulling hair, etc... in retaliation. Further, one child should not live in physical fear of the other, or their parents, just for saying something. Regards, Vanhin

Do you snore? Has your wife ever noticed that it seems like you stop breathing from time to time while you sleep? Have you ever had a sleep study? The symptoms you describe sound just like me before I was treated for sleep apnea. I never seemed to be fully rested, even after sleeping more than usual. See if your doctor can get you hooked up with a sleep specialist. A full sleep study looks for sleep apnea, insomnia, RLS, etc... Regards, Vanhin

Nonetheless, both faith and hard work are eternal principles, and the same volume of scripture that you pulled the Isaiah quote from, teaches that God does rest... And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. (Genesis 2:2-3) God does hard work, and he rests. Why does he need to rest, I don't know, and it's not relevant to my idea of heaven, and my desire come home and rest after day of hard Celestial work (oh and to fire up the Sauna and do a little sweat bathing).
