  1. I am so grateful for the many hours I have spent reading and studying the Book of Mormon. It has led me to paths of truth and helped to root out false doctrine from my life.
  2. I am so glad I have realized the gift the the Lord gave us was the Book of Mormon, not Joseph Smith. I have freedom to believe what it tells me now and not to be bound down by the false teachings and ideas of those who have claimed to be prophets or apostles. I wish you, MikeUK, would see the value in the Book of Mormon and not reject it because of Joseph sins. There are other churches that use it that are not bound to LDS traditions, that see it for the gift it is and acknowledge the sins the the early leaders.
  3. The entry doors on the Portland Temple face eastward
  4. I don't know why it has been so hard for them to respond to your question... Yes, Mormons believe in baptismal regeneration as you defined it. Geeeesh people!
  5. James Strang's "Book of the Law of the Lord" has chaismus (sp?). Explain that.
  6. Excellent idea!!!!! That's how the scriptures teach they should be done. Hurray!!! I hope this goes church wide.
  7. As an "x-mo" I can positively state I have felt the Spirit in the LDS church... and in a Restoration Branch and in a Messianic Congregation and in a mega-church and watching Jesse Duplantis and reading Max Lucado and listening to Christian music stations etc...
  8. It sounds like you are straining at a gnat, perhaps because it is your ex-wife who used the phrase.
  9. I would just add that the church's sending Apostle and members to the Mexican colonies to continue sealing plural marriages only added to the belief by those fundamentalists who believed the Manifesto was a farce. Abraham Cannon, John W. Taylor, and Matthias Cowley were all called upon to seal plural marriages is the Mexican Colonies. The Stake President from my years as a teenager is a grandson of Anson Call who is documented to have taken a wife after the Manifesto with full approval.

  12. I'm still confused... people who know RachelleDrews fiancee (sp?) are pressuring him to go on a mission?? Even though he's got her knocked up and they're living together? Like another poster said, "Something smells fishy." BTW, I served a mission and look at the awful heretic I've become. :) But I would recommend going, it's a great experience.
  13. If a moderator had a problem with this topic I would be concerned, but so far it's just you, sport. I'm done in this topic anyhow, having ToughGrits bag on me is not the point of the topic. Hasta!
  14. Firstly the topic wasn't meant to belittle the LDS church or it's members. It was simply to share a viewpoint of the subject. YOU have CHOSEN to be offended or feel belittled. I was called a "whiner" so I called the REAL complainers "sissies", I think we can call it even. Why are you offended by this topic?? Because their reasoning makes sense? The response I got from an LDS member at Facebook was, "Interesting perspective. I hadn't thought of it that way before." Maybe it's just lds.net members that have a persecution complex? You seen to be implying with your post that since this is an LDS site, no alternative interpretation or theories should be discussed. Sad really.
  15. I most have a real hard time making myself clear. THAT WAS MY POINT!. All those complaining about Kirby taking the beer commercial should mind their own business. Seriously, am I writing in Albanian?????????????????
  16. Why is everybody so defenesive??? I was offering it as an alternative viewpoint I thought it made a lot of sense. BTW, most BofM believing churches believe just as you, that it was Moroni, so it wasn't an attack on the LDS church. Do you like looking for ways to feel persecuted? To the guy that said I "whine a lot"... I'm not the guy that has filled up at least one page full of complaints to the moderators. I haven't complained once and won't because I'm a big boy not a sissy that has to run to mommy about everything, like, apparently, a lot of people are here.
  17. Elphaba- Sorry about not responding to the post you were referring to. I kind of ignored this topic for a while. I quite honestly haven't read probably the first 3-4 pages. Could you please repost the post and I will be happy to respond.
  18. Wow, I'm just going to step back from this topic. Evidently, I'm not expressing myself clear enough.
  19. You could put it under the Book of Mormon category. This topic isn't about "Christian Beliefs" as this category is intended. It's about the giving of the Book of Mormon by people who believe in the Book of Mormon. Whatever leave it here, nobody is going to touch it with a 10 foot pole anyways.
  20. Booze as bartering tools.... GREAT idea!!
  21. How does this belong in the "Christian Beliefs" area. This is a topic about the Book of Mormon. I think I'm going to go insane.
  22. What ancient texts tell the story of the 3 Nephites besides the Book of Mormon? You can't just make claims and expect everyone to say, "Cool". and I'm a guy who wants to believe your right.
  23. Bro. Nibley was using ancient pagan texts as sources, this dude claims that ancient Egyptian Christian texts bear this out. I don't believe they are referring to the same things.
