  1. I assume you're responding to lauracooke? A quote would've helped :)
  2. I suppose I should be offended, but I stopped being easily offended years ago. This attitude is typical (and I'm not referring to anyone in particular here) amoung faithful members of any religious order. It helps them to dismiss any lingering doubt deep in their minds that there may be something amiss in their church by judging the "apostate" as a sinner who never had the intestinal fortitude to live the "rules" of their particular order. *A faithful will Catholic will tell you people leave because of sin *A faithful Jehovah's Witness will tell you people leave because of sin *A faithful Seventh-Day Adventist will tell you people leave because of sin *A faithful Southern Baptist will tell you people leave because of sin *etc..........
  3. Good luck. You ask 10 Mormons their take on the WofW and you get 13 different opinions. Just read D&C 89, pray about it, and do what YHWH (the Lord) tells you to do.
  4. I believe having your name removed in akin to excommunicating yourself and you have to wait at least a year before being rebaptized. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
  5. I can tell you from my experience that this quote is not accurate for all cases. If anything I have become stricter in my lifestyle since leaving the LDS church and I fully expect to continue to become more observant in scriptural/spiritual laws. To say that all people leave so they can enjoy the lusts of the flesh is a broad, unfair generalization.
  6. I don'r see why it would. Your brother has never been divorced and with the cancellatin of sealings it's like her first marriage never happened because she wasn't the person in sin.
  7. I think it depends on if she recieved a cancellation ofsealings, because if she didn't your brother can't be sealed to her and I think I non-sealed marriage can affect the callings you can have.
  8. Actually, if you have been divorced you can't be the presiding officer in a Quorum or Pesidency.
  9. I would hope you would issue the same warning to MyDogSkip, Should we review some of the things he has been saying? I know it's easy to be hard on the "apostate" and easy on the "True Blue Mormon" but please show some equity in your dealings with the members here.
  10. What this verse shows me is a conclusion a reached previously from other scriptures... it wasn't all of Ham's lineage that was cursed just those that came through Canaan. Pharaoh tried to claim the priesthood through Ham, indicating Ham had it, but was denied because he came through Canaan. Brigham et al were wrong in excluding African blacks from the priesthood, it was the Canaanites (who would later mix with the Arabs and Persians) who had the blood of Canaan in their bodies. If anyone falls under the curse it would be those that reside in the lands surrounding Israel... the Islamic nations.
  11. Dealing honestly with history would be releasing ALL documents concerning church history for public perusal. Even the new "Joseph Smith Papers" project has a caveat that the historians compiling it decide what they believe is authentically his and what is not. What that means to casual outsiders is that if they don't like a particular writing they can conclude it's not really Joseph and not include it. Why don't they release all the writings and put a disclaimer by the ones they feel aren't up to snuff?
  12. 3. Personal attacks, name calling, flaming, and judgments against other members will not be tolerated. ~ Canuck Mormon Please read the site rules and try to abide by them. Thank you.
  13. Do you verbally accost you wife when she questions you on something? You need to take it down a notch. You are the one who said Moroni appeared to Joseph and told him he had dedicated temples, I figured you had a ready reference since you were so sure of yourself. I would, but do you know how much they want for a Journal of Discourses set?? How would I know what other temples Moroni dedicated since I don't believe he dedicated the one's you've already mentioned? As far as reading comprehension I was on a Senior grade level in reading comprehension when I was in the 6th grade and surely I've improved from there. If you want to question my IQ, I'm at roughly 139 (spell check does come in handy though). Is there anything else you would like to know? Or am I done defending defending my intellectual right to be engaged in a conversation with you?
  14. Holy Zamboni! I just realized there are 14 pages in this topic... Oy Vey!!! (just for you Venge, er, MyDogSkip)
  15. Welcome fellow traveler to my world , I know just what you are going through (been at it about 7 years now) and I would be happy to converse with you. One bit of advice... never loose your testimony of the Book of Mormon, get that Spirit witness again and study with that knowledge in mind. I haven't read the other post in the thread yet, so I don't know your exact questions, so give me some time to catch up.
  16. I was joking around thus the It's not my fault you can't immediately provide the reference for the Moroni-Joseph experience, take all the time you need. I'm not going anywhere. You have to admit I have a legitimate argument about your Journal of Discourses/Brigham Young quote. So don't get angry at me that I didn't just accept your premise, roll over and show you my belly. You need to learn to defend your faith without becoming angry at the one with the questions.
  17. Wow, that was, like, totally not helpful I've never heard of the book you mentioned (maybe you need to clarify further, and author might help), and I often stare at the books in the Book of Mormon section at Deseret Book (no money to buy any of them). I think it's ironic when LDS members quote the Journal of Discourses but don't allow others the same privilege when the don't like the idea being conveyed by the quote. So I'll just chalk this up to erroneous notes, misinterpretation, of just one of Brigham's fanciful ideas. I am intrigued with your comment on Joseph and Moroni though... Could you please provide the quote and reference where Moroni appeared to Joseph and said he dedicated temples from Utah to Nauvoo. Thanks in advance. Shalom!
  18. "We know he dedicated temple site from Manti, Ut. to Nauvoo, Il." ??? Where exactly do we know this from? It's the first I've heard of it. Please give some sources.
  19. Moderators: Can I respond to this without getting in trouble or should I just shut up?
  20. The sripture teach that Yahushua (Jesus) is the "keeper of the gate and He employs no man there".
  21. As part of your Will have a request that the attorney serve the LDS church with a certified letter that you do not want your name taken through the Temple Ceremonies.
