  1. All of them claim modern revelation. So if all of them are claiming modern revelation, where should I look to for clarification? The Bible and Book of Mormon which were given for the express purpose of "confounding false doctrine".
  2. You can choose be insulted if you like it's your choice. One thing I will say is I don't agree that the more educated one is the more likely they are to fall away from the church. And I don't see LDS as mindless, I believe they choose to be and not question what they are taught, not because they are mindless but because of their good feelings and close associations. I do, however, believe that if more people had the opportunity to investigate other Book of Mormon believing churches after receiving their BofM witness, the membership break-down between the various churches would be drastically different.
  3. I like the term "morg", heard about it in a story they did on the TV show "Big Love" apparently the teenage kids call them that in the show (I've don't have HBO, so I've never seen it.) I don't frequent anti-mormon sites so their use of it is news to me. Ah, polygamy, the age old question. To believe or not to believe that is the question. I'm still studying it out. I say stuff then I take it back, I have believing times and unbelieving times. It's hard to break the grip of LDSism. The "morg" nick is appropriate, because at times I do feel like 7 of 9, torn between the unity of the collective and my upbringing, and the beauty of freedom and truth. The Apostolic United Brethren was formed by Rulon Allred when he split from LeRoy Johson after the death of Joseph Musser. Rulon was the junior member of the council and some of the old timers didn't like that Musser chose him to be the head of the council. After Rulon was murdered by Ervil Lebaron's followers, Owen took over, but he died a few years back. LaMoine Jensen now leads them.
  4. Many of the AUB have had and might still have (I wasn't with them) the idea the LDS church leaders actually know what is going on and it is only because of the unfaithfulness of the LDS membership that they are being withheld from that greater knowledge. There are stories amoung Rulon based group that David McKay actually sent some people to Rulon when they were able to get an audience with him and ask him who had the keys to perform plural sealings.
  5. Of course I know the difference. Did you not read my post in the Elphaba/Kosher topic? BTW. LaMoine Jensen is the current head of the AUB, I have no idea who Ed Allred is I meet David Allred once though (he's the FLDS guy that bought the YFZ property) while I was working in Las Vegas. Seemed like a nice guy, had one of his wives with him. she wasn't some meek wall-flower. I know a gentlemen that was married to one of Owen Allred's girls at one point. No Ed though.
  6. While I'm flattered I don't see the point of making this discussion about me. Do you often attack the person and not the argument? Oh yeah, you do. Never mind. If the racial statements were common place, I guess that makes Brigham just a common man? The statement I quoted was from the Tabernacle, go to the link and you would see that. Since when does the origin of the web site affect the contents of the page? Are you accusing the Nutall's of making things up? Now, someone asked for the Rodney Turner BYU thesis... I'm having a hard time finding a link to it, so I offer this up for you reading pleasure.. http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/4EpQSG2ftSVzJwsjl9u2kiKrSWMkIHSTRb2p1OHt8mGMZAvgg4yvcex6NN9jNVvCpK7h4hefY-lV3ArcZ7P2SD9R18UPycJh/Adam-God%20by%20Craig%20Tholson.txt
  7. You know Skip, that at various times BY clearly identified Adam/Michael as the Father not only of our bodies but of our spirits also. Should I link to the Rodney Turner BYU thesis?
  8. Be careful not to confuse the Apostolic United Brethren with the FLDS. Don't use people ignorance of the varying groups and their practices as a tool to deflect attention away from the quote itself.
  9. You need to learn to follow the discussion, Skip. I wasn't claiming it as your doctrine, but Ska said he believed what has been stated by your prophets was true but just "too meaty" for the membership. I was simply reminding him of some of the stuff said from the pulpit by an early church leader. "Me thinks he doth protest too much" your anger is just a defense mechanism to silence the doubts within your own mind concerning these issue. I do hope you'll forgo any cursing or false accusations concerning my sexuality in your response to this post.
  10. Sure... Untitled Document "You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind. The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race-that they should be the "servant of servants;" and they will be, until that curse is removed; and the Abolitionists cannot help it, nor in the least alter that decree. How long is that race to endure the dreadful curse that is upon them? That curse will remain upon them, and they never can hold the Priesthood or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof. Until the last ones of the residue of Adam's children are brought up to that favourable position, the children of Cain cannot receive the first ordinances of the Priesthood. They were the first that were cursed, and they will be the last from whom the curse will be removed. When the residue of the family of Adam come up and receive their blessings, then the curse will be removed from the seed of Cain, and they will receive blessings in like proportion."
  11. "Zion's Advocate" is the official magazine of the Church of Christ (Temple Lot). There is nothing anti-mormon in it and I thought it my be interesting to those who like to study their cousins in the Restoration... http://www.cocsermons.net/Zion's%20Advocate/Zion's%20Advocate/2008-05%2006%20May%20Jun.pdf
  12. So Brigham's statements about blacks from the pulpit at Conference are just "too meaty" for the current membership? If this is the case about Brigham and others statements, what does that say about the current membership of the church? It would seem to indicate they have been going backwards in spiritual progress, not forward.
  13. The fundamentalists use this experience to show the leaders weren't worthy to receive answers within the walls of the temple anymore. Funny how different groups have different interpretations:rolleyes:
  14. So I guess we'll have to wait and see who is misinterpreting scriptures now. The LDS believe the Church of Christ is, The Church of Christ believes the Community of Christ is, they believe likewise of the Church of Christ, the Remnant Church thinks all the others are wrong, as does the LDS who believe they are all apostates and they are the original church, and so on and so forth. And around and around we go. May the One Mighty and Strong come and put an end to this mess!
  15. What can a non-member who doesn't know the law, thus not accountable under it, do to be worthy? I love this logic, "Just do what we tell you are the commandments and the right things to do, and then you'll get an answer". What if I go that rout, get, baptized, endowed and sealed, and when I finally receive an answer it's that the LDS church wasn't right the whole time? I've wasted at least a year of my life pursuing something that doesn't profit me anything.
  16. I thought that's what the purpose of the disembodied Holy Spirit was... so God could be everywhere at the same time. So if he's off making another planet the Holy Ghost, not bound by a physical body, can be there??? So how could he ever be busy with the Holy Ghost floating about?
  17. The Book of Mormon prophecies of the ending of "the Law of Moses" and the end of sacrifices. I'm sure we can find some Old Testament indications to, you'll have to give me time to look, I'm more knowledgeable of the Book of Mormon then the Bible.
  18. Yes, I think with the JST clarification is made that it wasn't a simple touch he was trying to avoid.
  19. Rulon taught that the LDS church is still the true church and has the keys to the first ordinances of the gospel and at the time I don't believe they had their own Endowment House/Temple. He saw his calling as that passed down from the 1886 Centerville meeting where men were authorized to continue sealing plural marriages and the AUB as a place for like believers to assemble, not a different church. Kind of like a Ward in exile you could say.
  20. The post was directed at MyDogSkip not Elphaba. So far the only thing I seen that I was asked was if I have first hand knowledge of fundamentalist culture, and I answered. What am I missing?
  21. Modern teachings by church leaders are just as subject to the standard of scripture as anything else. when their teachings agree with scripture great, when they are in conflict or unclear they should be rejected or set on the shelf until the additional scriptures promised us come forth. BTW, the no unclean thing can dwell with God response, now THAT makes sense. Remember I'm not saying my intial hypothesis is right, I was just bantering an idea about.
  22. While I don't reject the Book of Mormon as it seems AlexanderX does. I believe he is right about study and not relying solely on feelings. Paul commended the Bareans because they studied the scriptures to see if what the apostles were preaching was true. As I study the Bible and Book of Mormon (given to confound false doctrines) I find the LDS church wanting. One thing commendable about the other Book of Mormon believing churches is they invite you to study their doctrines based on scripture and not to rely just on feelings. Of course I pray everyday that I will be lead in the right path, and if God directs back to the LDS church I will go, but I'm not going to rely on my subjective feelings alone.
  23. Well, of course you have no idea of my grasp of church history as most discussions I have been involved in with you are concerning theology that usually ended in you being upset.
  24. Have I ever lived in a fundamentalist Mormon community? Yes. Just not the FLDS. During my time there as a believer I frequented and contributed to various FM groups, blogs, and have read tons of material produced by fundamentalists of varying stripes. So my knowledge... first hand as a one time believer. Anything else?
  25. Why do you think everything is a fight? I was simply postulating a theory from the wording of the verses, I wasn't saying it was right or wrong or telling you what to believe. It has only turned into that because of the condescending and defensive replies to the original post.
