I asked my spouse's father for his blessing, but only because my spouse asked me to do so. To my father-in-law's credit, all he did was laugh and say, "You should ask her." I've told my spouse that if either of our daughters' future suitors ever ask me for permission/my blessing, my immediate response will be "no." I am debating whether or not I should tell my daughters. Part of me wants to tell them that I'll be horribly offended if their suitors don't ask. That way I'll be setting up the situation where I get to tell the poor kid no and have a good laugh about it. But that seems mean.

Replacement for youth programs
MarginOfError replied to NeuroTypical's topic in Church News and Events
My theory is that they aren't releasing information because they, perhaps rightfully, believe that as soon as they do, people will start abandoning scouts and trying to run the new program off of whatever incomplete information they have. I'm partially worried that they are going to try to do a three week roll out where they dump all of the information in December and expect people to take off running. That bothers me mostly because if it's a program that you could implement and train in three weeks, I have serious concerns about its quality. But I keep worrying less and less. I've fully outsourced all of the leadership and teaching training to my kids outside of the Church. I've resigned myself that mid-week activities will be a social club for them. Some of the other families in my ward and the neighboring ward seem to be feeling the same way; they are starting to ask me for recommendations on Cub Packs and Scout Troops and aren't holding their breath for the new youth whatever-it-is. -
Hmmm...do I start with the time I ended up with a girl in a hotel room with a mirrored ceiling, or the time I went on a date with a stripper........

Replacement for youth programs

It's strange, every time the Church puts out "more information" about this new youth program, the lower my expectations for it get. -
https://futurism.com/pepsi-orbital-billboard-night-sky No. Just No! Leave the skies alone, you filthy advertisers! https://elysiumspace.com/product/lunar-memorial/ And seriously? Have we finally come to an agreement that we've polluted our own planet enough that now it's time to start in on the moon?

Just now I saw the thread title and read it as "Title IX Trailer." And thought to myself, "sounds like one of those awful legal thrillers."

Vort is scum! (Figure out how to address that insult, mods!)
-
Yes it was, in fact. I have reliable sources--the best sources, really--and these people are very smart people that know lots of things. And they told me that you have many accounts you use to post very mean things about people without it coming back to Vort. (ignore my foil hat)

Nice to know that at least one of you can be civil

That's overly harsh, and if allowed to stand, I request permission to make similar comments about Republicans and Libertarians with impunity.

Also, Democrats are better dancers.

And we only need seven conventional uranium power plants to provide the energy to produce enough seawater uranium to power one of those!!!! (I'm sure there's a trade off somewhere. Not sure what, and not saying it isn't worth pursuing....just being a....pain in the neck?) -

I don't like this solution. I'm a democrat. I wouldn't know what to do without nightmares. -
Does it count if I'm terrible at arithmetic?

I'm a basket case on nuclear power. This is one I actually don't want privatized, because the best way to keep it sustainable is to have every plant operate with the same design and interchangeable parts. That, of course, means regulation. One of the reasons the U.S. nuclear industry failed is that each plant was uniquely designed, and getting replacement parts was time consuming and expensive. Most of the nuclear plants in Canada and Europe are similar enough that they can trade parts. But then I also get concerns about the number of nuclear plants we would need to build. If each nuclear plant can support about 1 million households, we'd need about 100 nuclear plants to support our current needs. As we build more, we open more doors for an catastrophic event. That concerns me a bit. But I want it! -
You're probably right. I'm just opposed to imperial units because I'm not a numbers guy.

Unless you live in a country that uses the metric system, I don't think you can claim not to be on the dark side.
