  3. :(How come I'm not as wise as all these other people -- I never say anything that someone else would want to quote. Very inspirational -- thanks everyone for sharing.
  4. You said you were reading in Mosiah -- I love this book. I don't know where you are at but in Mosiah 27 we read of the conversion of Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah. Alma the younger and the sons of Mosiah (Alma the elder, by the way, is a prophet of the Church) are going about trying to destroy the church. If it's mentioned in the scriptures you can just imagine what horrible things they (in their youth) might have been doing. It's a beautiful conversion story and one of my favorites. If they had to repent of all their wrong doings and were able to turn their lives around and become wonderful, strong members of the Church -- don't you think you could too? You are showing such strength now -- you really are -- and the Holy Spirit will help you when you feel week but first we must move by faith, knowing that he will help us.:)
  5. The more accurately we search into the human mind, the stronger traces we everywhere find of the wisdom of Him who made it. --Edmund Burke The first step to wisdom is silence; the second listening. Silence is true wisdom's best reply. --Eurpides To finish the moment, to find the journey's end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom. --Ralph Waldo Emerson
  6. Brenton -- I just read your talks with the missionaries. Wow! Thanks for sharing them with us!!:) Just through reading those conversations I can feel the Spirit. I also feel you listening. How wonderful. I know it's scarey. It scared me at first also. I don't know why. I had had experiences in my life that left me feeling that there was no God and I was very bitter for many years. When I finally came to the point you are at now -- I guess I was afraid that eventually I would find out that all this wonderful stuff I was discovering would end up being false. I've been a member for almost 4 years and my testimony has grown. I also had a moment kind of like yours when I realized I was a child of God and what that meant. It thrilled me to have that revelation. I think as new converts we can all have moments, in the beginning, when we are scared for one reason or another. I just have to add -- about your Sunday best -- in the part of the U.S. where I live we have a lot of cowboys and it's not uncommon for their Sunday best to be a nice pair of Wrangler jeans and a nicely ironed shirt. If they have a calling in the Bishopric or some other presidency then they wear a suit. About the changes you'll be expected to make. We all have had to make changes in our lives when we were baptized and took the name of Jesus upon ourselves. The good part about these changes -- we've never been alone in making those changes -- the Great Comforter will be with us/you all the time. I know that all of us here wish that we could take you to Church and fellowship with you and because I know that we feel that way -- I know that Ward members where you go will be just as excited having you there and will help you.:) Now as a motherly figure:lol: I'm telling you to just go! FYI -- if you're interested, go to my profile and read my conversion story.

  11. Wow! Wonderful Moshka! Made me think of this little book I have called God's Promises and Answers (For Your Life). In the section labled Peace: You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation. Ephesians 2:13, 14 The God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Romans 16:20 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Colossians 3:15 The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace. Psalms 29:11 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
  12. Wow Hemi -- I had to get my dictionary out on that one. I do a lot of reading but I don't remember coming across that word -- maybe I just took the meaning in context and kept reading. In my dictionary it has nescience -- absence of knowledge or awareness; ignorance. learning (because I had to get the dictionary out, LOL!)
  13. 1. You know you're in a Redneck Church if... people ask, when they learn that Jesus fed the 5000, whether the two fish were bass or catfish, and what bait was used to catch 'em. 2. You know you're in a Redneck church if ... when the pastor says, "I'd like to ask Bubba to help take up the offering," five guys and two women stand up. 3. You know you're in a Redneck church if... opening day of deer season is recognized as an official church holiday. 4. You know you're in a Redneck church if... a member of the church requests to be buried in his 4-wheel-drive truck because "It ain't never been in a hole it couldn't get out of." 5. You know you're in a Redneck church if... the baptismal pool is a #2 galvanized "Wheeling" washtub. 6. You know you're in a Redneck church if... instead of a bell you are called to service by a duck call. 7. You know you're in a Redneck church if... the minister and his wife drive matching pickup trucks. 8. You know you're in a Redneck church if... "Thou shalt not covet" applies to huntin' dogs, too.
  14. No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session. ---Mark Twain (1866) Will Rogers on Government and Politics "I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts. With Congress, every time they make a joke it's a law, and every time they make a law, it's a joke." "Never blame a legislative body of not doing something. When they do nothing, that don't hurt nobody. When they do something is when they become dangerous." "The short memories of American voters is what keeps our politics in office." "The more you read and observe about this Politics thing, you got to admit, that each party is worse than the other."

  16. Well, this is a little embarrassing to be discussing but if it helps you or someone else, that's what matters. I met my husband a few months after joining the Church -- he had been a member, at that time, only about a year. We also, while dating, had relations. We were already planning on getting married but I was really hoping to go to the Temple when I would be a member for a year. At first, I tried to tell myself that it wasn't a big deal, (because of what I believed before becoming a member), but I kept getting this nagging feeling and reading scriptures and praying and then I did know it was a big deal, A VERY BIG DEAL. I did feel the Spirit because of the messages I was getting but it was not as strong and prevailing as before the trangressions. The Spirit was withdrawing. I didn't feel worthy to partake of the Sacrament one Sunday and so I didn't, I couldn't stop the tears flowing during Sacrament. That Sunday during Gospel Doctrine class a member of the Bishopric called me out of class and extended a calling in Primary. I just started crying and told him that I needed to speak to the Bishop before I accepted the call. I told my soon to be husband that I needed to talk to the Bishop -- I set up an appointment and we both went. I won't say it was easy but I'm sure glad that we both went and followed his counsel!!! We were married by the Bishop and a year later, sealed in the Temple. I was able to accept the calling and have been teaching in primary ever since. Don't let your pride and Satan's lies take you away from the truth!!! The Spirit will withdraw and your heart will become hardened the longer you prolong true repentance. My advice is to go to your Bishop now -- be honest -- tell him you don't feel repentant right now and go from there. Remember, he will counsel you, but it will be up you to take the steps, ask for forgiveness and then repent. I can't stress to you enough how important it is to repent of this. I'm so thankful I listened to the Spirit and went to the Bishop. Both my husband and I have been so blessed for doing so!!:)
  17. I'm jealous Ceeboo -- I never get a 'well put' about my posts:( Does that mean I don't put thing well? Oh dear sadness taking over -- must go drown my sorrows in lemonade:lol: Sorry to get off topic -- just needed to vent:lol:
  18. Hey Ceeboo, No it would not show disrespect to leave right after Sacrament -- no one will tackle:lol: or confront you about leaving -- however, some may greet you and invite you to the Gospel Principle class. That is the Sunday school class that is for learning the basic doctrine of the LDS Church. If you go some Sunday I ( and I'm sure as well as others) would like to know what you think. I for one would want your honesty.:) Personally -- at first I thought it was a little strange because it was not what I was used to. I was used to a preacher preaching hellfire and brimstone,LOL! The music is a little different, but still beautiful hymns.:)
  19. I'm LDS since Dec. 12, 2004. Before that I was agnostic and before that Missionary Baptist and/or Freewill Baptist.

  25. What I found to be true for me in deciding to join the Church ----- I had many questions about the doctrine but the one question that was answered was should I join this church and the answer was yes. And as for the questions about doctrine I have brought what I was taught in my early years and had it added upon by LDS doctrine. Do I understand all that I'm being taught right now -- not by a longshot! However, I do know that I am learning 'line upon line', precept upon precept' and I accept that way of learning. Heavenly Father gives me the answers to the hard stuff when he knows I'm ready and usually I'm ready when I've grasped the little stuff. He knows each of us individually and will treat us with that respect.:)
