  1. I believe the point he was making here was about the necesity of haste in preaching the gospel and had nothing to do with baptism for the dead. This is evident when we look at the preceding verse. KJV Luke 9 59. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the aplough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
  2. Scouts would be a great idea. I think you'd be fine taking them to activities so long as she agreed. Teach your sons the simpler ideas of the church that just can't commonly be rejected, like respect, responsibility, preparedness...well...all the things they'll learn in scouts! If their mother approves work your way up from there. She wants her sons to be Christians? Teach them about Christ; can't go wrong there. Best of luck and God bless!,
  3. You might find yourself drawing strength from this experience some day when you're a missionary. I know the rough times I had as a teenager helped to prepare me for my mission.
  4. Approach it like this: Whatever agreements (be them marriage or whatever) we make here on earth are temporary without priesthood power. Therefore, our Father in Heaven provided us with a way (temple marriage) that we might live together with our family so long as we meet the requirements (keep the commandments and honor the terms of our covenants). As humans it is in our nature to be attracted to a mate so that we can find someone to be happy with and have a family. But the blame falls on us if we do not live worthily of temple marriage or do what is necessary to enter in to such a covenant.
