HAHA..no that won't be necessary :) I was only asking because if you were only reading the BoM online, I was going to suggest you get a copy of it. I didn't think you had one because you didn't know what I was referring to by the dates on the bottom of the page and you asked if Nephi was the shortest book.
-
Are you actually reading the BoM as in you have a copy, or are you reading something online?
-
Nope, Jacob, Enos, Omni, Word of Mormon...maybe some of the others, I'm not 100% sure without looking it up.

Yeah, I read a really interesting article about that a while back. It was the linage that wasn't given the Priesthood. Not only that, but it says that there were plenty of blacks who weren't part of the linage and were given the priesthood. Think about certain cultures where ONLY blacks were members. Someone would have to have the priesthood. Plus they said that white members of the lineage were also denied the Priesthood. I'm trying to find the article, but it was years ago I read it and I'm not having any luck.

Then I guess it doesn't bring that much happiness. That doesn't make sense at all. There are plenty of woman (and men) of many other faiths who suffer from depression and their church can't provide a cure either. So are all faith's inable to bring "happiness" because of that? Depression is NOT normal, nor natural. If your religion doesn't help you get past your problems then why is your belief system anything special? You suffer the same bad things as everybody else, in fact you suffer statistically more, and then claim that your religion sets you apart and gets you closer to God. It seems like mormons have more problems than the people that they are above.Religion can not correct hormonial imbalances. And Peace is right in the sense the studies (all of them) mean diddly squat until they go into all the areas of depression. There are mormons on this board who tell us to judge the mormon church by the fruit it produces. Kinda hard to ignore bad fruit like this.Yeah, but how many people pay attention to ONLY the bad fruit? Why not also praise us for our "good fruit" as well? No, it's just the irregularly high numbers that people are taking notice of.Again, you can't really judge any of this until someone does a study on all aspects of depression.

I saw it, it was beautiful :)

But with the Lord sending Lehi and his family out of Jerusalem, then they didn't have access to a temple, so the sacrifices I believe, were still received favorably from the Lord.I've seen a supposed make up of the plates and they were HEAVY! There's something I think more important in this chapter. Sariah loses faith in Lehi and she complains (in verse 2) because she thinks her sons were killed. Then when they return (verse 7 and 8) she realizes that the Lord has blessed her sons and that obviously her husband's visions were from the Lord and she gains faith again.

The Oath is important, that's what I would have talked about. I also like verse 13 1 Nephi 4:13 "Behold the Lord slayeth the wicked to bring forth his righteous purposes. It is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief."

This is just a WILD WILD WILD guess. But what about post partum depression? That's very common among woman period. And since probably LDS woman are having more children, they may be experiencing PPD? Just a thought. Flame away.

Yes, Laban's sword is passed down with the plates and becomes a sacred relic. Because it was commanded. I don't think verse 3 is saying that Laban will be killed the same way that the Egyptians were killed, but rather, the Lord will deliver Laban to them, as the Lord delivered Egyptians to their fathers. Fathers meaning ancestors...not literally their fathers, since they obviously all have the same father. Not sure what exactly is the question here, but Zoram was a righteous man and Laban was not. When Zoram discovered that the man was not Laban, Nephi made an oath. 1 Nephi 4:32 "And it came to pass that I spake with him, that if he would hearken unto my words, as the Lord liveth, and as I live, even so that if he would hearken unto our words, we would spare his life." To these people an oath is the most binding of promises and people didn't makes oaths that they didn't intend to keep. The most serious of oaths was an oath on the life of something. Usually it was on their own life, but even more serious was when someone would make on oath on God's life as well. So Nephi gave the higest of oaths when he said "as the Lord liveth, and as I live" and Zoram no longer feared him.

I have never heard of that. In the scriptures it says being interpretted means "Damsel I say unto thee, arise" Talitha is my middle name, and every baby book and such has always said it means little girl (Or some variation of that)

little lamb Mark 5:41 Close, little girl

Oliver Granger is the name that should be remember by all saints through the generations, and since we don't, that's proof the BoM is false...to anti's at least. All I really know is that he's mentioned in D&C and people use him as an example of Joseph Smith being crazy, but they're interpretting the scripture wrong. Plus there's several evidences of the very same thing in the Bible. They like to hold the D&C to standards that they don't hold the Bible to. Maybe someone else can give a better description. I've heard his name mentioned a lot from anti's in my hometown. It's actually been quite a while since I've heard about him :) My question is... What does Talitha mean and what scripture verse is it in?

In regards to the pic in Snow's post. Can't these guys come up with something better than "Moron" I mean seriously, get a little more creative. It was clever the first 500 times, now it's just pathetic.

The history of the language is probably as you say...just simply by having the plates they have the history. As for the letters, you say yourself that it contained the writings of some of the prophets. That included letters that prophets wrote.

It's not just you. Several have mentioned that before.Serapha, what are you intentions with these discussions? To try to prove the BoM wrong? To try to understant it? To try to gain a testimony of it? What? I'm asking seriously, no joking at all. It appears that you're trying to prove it's wrong. And coming off like that you can't expect those of us with a sincere testimony that it's true to take that lightly.

There's a bunch of information on it in the Gospel Principles, CH 47.

So you're saying that all members have to agree 100% of the time on everything?Sorry, that doesn't happen. Members on this forum alone disagree all the time.

So when you grow up you wanna be like you?

Let me try searching for it online.... Artwork by Liz Lemon Swindle. She did this book Joseph Smith: Impressions of a Prophet GREAT Artwork!

Most that can be catagorized as anti-mormon do it out of sincere concern for those who they think are going to hell unless someone helps point them in the right direction. It is the anti-mormon I have had most success with when I want to talk about my church. It is they who will listen whole-heartedly (most, not all) broadway I disagree. I've had friends who have genuinely been concerned about me and have talked to me about my faith. And I've had people who flat out tell me I'm going to hell for "portraying" a Christian. These people didn't try to "Save" me, these people didn't try to teach me about Christ, these people did nothing but point a finger at me and tell me that I was wrong and I would suffer eternal damnation because of it.
