I haven't changed any personal settings, which will apply to most people I'd imagine and I get the full reply sent to me as opposed to just a notification of a reply.
-
I get the full text of the reply sent to be by default.

Not intentionally, the forum setup worked to their advantage on this one - anyone who didn't unsubscribe from the threads they have replied to and have logged in recently will have had the posts sent to them.

The links to to the pics will have been sent to a lot of people via e-mail as well - I just hope people read the URL before clicking on it, especially if they are at work etc.

That is true. But what is wrong with what I pointed out? What he was trying to do had flaws so I pointed them out. I'm still at a loss as to how that is wrong. I fully aknowledge that an addiction is much more than a lack of self control. But for the purpose of my post, I didn't need to go into any more detail. At the end of the day, if everyone had 100% control over themselves, we wouldn't have addictions - a part of it is therefore a lack of self control. And I'm not focusing on the entire recovery process, just the part lostsheep was focusing on in the OP.

Sorry...

In what way were they lacking understanding? You'll find nothing factually incorrect in my posts. I'm completely confused as to how they were insensitive as well, unless you mean I shouldn't have pointed out that something hadn't been thought about here, that should really have been? If I see someone say something that is wrong and that could potentially cause problems in the future for them, why do I get slammed for pointing that out? Why? Isn't that what a pornography addiction is? A lack of self control? Or am I seriously mistaken here?

I did actually say providing you didn't have physical access to the router in my previous post. And I'm not trying to force you do to anything - I don't know why you appear to be so annoyed, I'm merely pointing out a flaw in your plan and it is a valid flaw. In my mind, if you have enough self control to not spend 5 minutes setting up a permanent way to bypass covenant eyes completely without your mum or anyone else knowing you have done so, you probably already have enough self control not to look up porn in the first place. I also know I would rather flaws in my plans were pointed out to me before I began rather than finding out later the hard way - but that's just me I guess.

The little shocked smilie ( ) bytor2112 placed below the picture actually is a very accurate representation of this guys expression.

The horns are there to hold up the halo, surely?

That was terrible!

This is more along the lines of what I was thining would be a better solution. It's a lot more difficult to bypass (providing you don't have remote or physical access to the router and it's set up correctly) and it's something which doesn't cost anything - all in all a better solution. I like the solution to be part of the LAN personally (e.g. Welcome to Express 3.0! - SmoothWall.org ) but opendns is just as good really albeit not quite as much control is given to the administrator which is why I opted not to use it for any of my personal networks. We also decided not to use it for the network at work for this reason too.

What is the reason you purchased the software? My assumption is because you don't yet have the self control to stop yourself looking at porn when at peak temptation so you need an external control to help you. With that, you have a reason not to do it - you'd have to face your parents. So, if you don't have the internal control to prevent yourself looking at porn, why do you think you'd have the internal control to prevent yourself bypassing the external control in order to get what your body desires? I have also not said no software is better - just that this software isn't very good. For the reasons stated above, the level of difficulty of bypassing the software is supposed to be high - at the very least it should be possible for the person checking the logs to see that there might have been an attempt to circumvent it. But with covenant eyes the difficultly level is practically nil, even though they make all sorts of contrary claims on their website.

Oh I'm definately in support of lostsheep and I don't disagree with the path he is taking per se. I think a filter, or similar type of software is a great idea to aid him. I'm just not sure about the company (and the software they produce) he has chosen to help him go down this path and I think this is more likely to backfire at some point if it ever gets to the stage of trying to bypass it. The reason I think this is because it isn't in the least bit difficult to do so - this is unfortunately an inherent flaw in any locally installed software of this nature and something the companies who produce this software fail to mention to technophobe parents. This is also the reason you'll rarely find this type of filter/monitor software in schools.

It wasn't me, I swear! Flickr is good, as recommended. Providing you don't want to exceed ~200 photos, otherwise you have to pay. Picasa is also fairly good.

Men that go on missions have a longer lasting marrige

That's why I used the word counterintuitive. That means that what may seem obvious, isn't necessarily the case when you look into it deeply. There are lot of things like this, there is one mathematical puzzle in particularly I'm thinking of that even when told the correct logical answer, a lot of people don't believe it because it doesn't seem right. And that's why a source needs to be given really -

Some things can be counterintuitive, which is why I asked for a source - it's no good just to assume something is correct and state it as fact :) -
They are your kids, and they are still accountable to you at that age so it's perfectly okay to "force" them to go with you. However, I personally would try and find ways to make them want to go, forcing someone to do anything they don't want to do rarely has good results. Try getting them to go to a church activity, if the activity is something they'd enjoy doing. And be careful about trying to get them to do something your wife doesn't want them to do, the church can be a very contentious issue and can end in a very messy way. Introduce it slowly, but don't push it.

Do you mind if I ask what statistics? What is the source? -
Hmmm, not entirely true, but I really hope it works for you. These locally installed filter/monitor programs that cost money to purchase are still a bit of a sore spot for me, as they rely on obscurity to work (i.e. the user not having the knowledge to bypass them and don't inform people how easy it is to do so). So basically I don't like the companies that produce this kind of software and I would love to have a discussion with some of their employees.

Yes, your knowledge will be needed

Not if you think about it :) - registration is free, so the organisation doesn't lose any money - they only want you to register so they can spam your email address - most people either enter a fake email address or one designated for spam email anyway - a lot of organisations would prefer those who were only going to log in once share an account anyway as loads of redundant accounts registered just for one visit clog up the database. :)
