  1. In all fairness, I don't think the post was bashing all lawyers, just the many lawyers who encourage us to sue our employers. I am also one who gets a little annoyed when stopped 10 times in one shopping trip in the city centre by 10 different sales men asking if I have had an accident recently. Quite frankly, if I had an accident, it was most likely my own fault. If my employer asked me to do something that was unreasonably dangerous, I should have made issue with it before I did it, not after. I'm not part of todays sue culture I'm afraid. I'm fairly careful with money but I won't try and squeeze as much of it out of people as possible and I think it would be unfair to do so. So I do have to agree with the OP.
  2. I like how they think their target audience will be watching TV in the morning. They are probably right lol. I shall say no more :)
  3. Oh believe me, they have a backup With a database as large of the churches, it would cause utter mayhem if the data was lost - the IT team know this and I suspect they'd have backups made each day ranging back several months. I suspect the reason for recreating lost records is an administrative one. BenRaines is correct in everything he said as far as I know, I was the MIS operative for a while in my ward.
  4. Ahhh, reminds me of a shrek quote:
  5. I have just the product for you:
  6. That looks like a testing which is done on a sample of the product before it reaches the public. PAT testing is usually performed on a regular basis on all electrical devices after it has been purchased by the customer (this only applies to buildings to which the public have access - so not your own house). Large companies will employ their own qualified PAT tester, as they have so much equipment it becomes a full time job wheras smaller companies and organisations will get a third party company to come in once a year or so, just to check all the equipment is still safe to use.
  7. Providing the device has been PAT tested. It is still unsafe otherwise EDIT: seems PAT testing is a UK requirement only, so those across the pond might not know what I mean, so here is the link: PAT Testing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  8. Lol, what I mean is they don't fare well compared to a lot of other people in their age group. My aunt still gets me to add names to her address book on her mobile phone and gets confused when the "call" button and "cancel" button are not colour coded green and red. This partiular aunt has never turned a computer on in her life and quite likely will never do so as her chosen career path doesn't require using a computer. I'm informed that with age it becomes increasingly difficult to learn new tricks, though I suspect in the case of my family it's a case of not being bothered to sit down and learn and hoping it will all go away lol.
  9. Geez . To this day I've never seen one of those. A lot of people apparently preferred betamax in the old VHS vs betamax war, but I've never come across someone who owned one before lol.
  10. My mother is worse. I've been struggling for years to try and get her familiar with current technology... or even technology of 10 years ago would be a start. Her siblings are the same as well. We still have a VCR player in our house because we still have a lot of VCRs lying around, it's not uncommon for either myself or my brother to be asked to turn it on for them because they don't know how to operate it. The same applies for CD players. I can generally explain how they need to use one CD player, they are fairly adept at following sequential instructions. However, if the CD player gets replaced due to breakage, we are back at stage one and I have to spent weeks trying to explain it in a way they will remember over again. My mother and her siblings are not that old either, ranging from around 38 - 50.
  11. These are cool! I came across one once while sorting out a large loft in a building my grandmother owned. Surprisingly satisfying to dial with lol.
  12. BBC NEWS | UK | Magazine | Giving up my iPod for a Walkman I'm 23, I'm just old enough to remember having one of these while I was in school. It was probably the best liked technology at the time, being able to listen to the radio during lessons (on the radio enabled walkmans) was considered luxury. But I really didn't remember how big they were! Oh and, who is willing to admit they still have one?
  13. I doubt it's due to the subordinate staff or even middle management. Upper management putting unrealistic targets on their staff with no-where near enough budget or manpower is likely the root problem, along with complete lack of organisation at the top. Unfortunately the subordinate staff then have to take the brunt of their customers anger, when it's not their fault.
  14. Yeah, wikipedia is full of sock puppets too, though in that case there is a use for them as the more people who seem to support an opinion, the more likely the opinion will be reflected in the main article. It is pretty sad. I am a member of two forums that I visit more than once a month now, this one and a technical one. It takes enough time to keep on top of both of these with just one account on each, let alone two or more
  15. I've been told I look like Patrick Swayze, though as strongly as it was suggested by a group of people in the first place it's also been strongly denied by others lol. EDIT: Just remembered that it's been suggested I look like Harry Judd, the drummer in McFly. That was years ago now though.
  16. Hmmmm... I have never attempted to change who I am online, though I am one heck of a lot more outspoken online than I am in real life. I don't know how many would believe that I'm actually a really shy person who tends to observe more than contribute to discussions in reality. But I have never lied online about who I am. More recently I have tried to not publish my actual name on forums that I am a member of, though a couple of members on here know who I am.
  17. Point taken.
  18. Maybe. And I'm pointing out the potential reasons for his hijacking of the thread :)
  19. I think reasons his position regarding Canada are stated here: http://www.lds.net/forums/general-discussion/22188-what-c-s-lewis-thought-about-mormons-4.html#post378336 Not necessarily that he actually believes what he is saying :)
  20. Glad you and your daughter are okay. Interesting you should mention about leaving the bedroom window open, it's amazing how often this happens as well as leaving back doors unlocked when the reality is that an intruder is far more likely to come around the back than the front. As you said, it's human nature to think "it'll never happen to us" right up until it does
  21. There are actually a few archives of "the internet" around. Some websites work like google, they basically spider the web every so often, the difference being that they keep each snapshot of the internet that their spider gets. Internet Archive is probably the most well known of these. However, it's not exactly a secret that governments record all our internet activity. They say there is a limit to how long they keep the data, but no-one is exactly monitoring that. No doubt they do something similar to the website mentioned above as well, but on a much wider scale as they have a much higher budget. Google may also keep the snapshots it makes of the internet and we'd never know about it. There could well be a time in the future where government internet archives become public under the freedom of information act. So basically I wouldn't be so sure that what you say in public online now and what you do on the internet will be hidden from the generations of the future.
  22. I completely agree. By the way, the person who laughed at this post should be ashamed. By all means feel free to disagree and say that, but laughing is mockery and that's pathetic. He said nothing against you personally in that post, so there is no need to respond in that form.
  23. BBC NEWS | Americas | Michael Jackson taken to hospital Still unconfirmed as I type, but seems likely. EDIT: already been posted, didn't see that sorry.
  24. He is the OP.
