Back to the OP. I agree with the poster that said that this decision is really one of safety and security. I know the area of West Valley. With what you are saying about the gang influence I would personally try to sell and get out of there. If your home is in good condition you have an advantage of some other sellers at the price point and area. It is true the house values are down. All housing markets down and I hear that your price point of your current home is selling the best. To upgrade now is a good choice for you IMO because there will be room to negotiate especially with your cash from selling your current home. These are just my opinions and should be held as such. :)

Well as a family we still work hard and save our money. We were offered those loans such as the 80/20 when we were looking at another home. We never took advantage of those loans because we felt that if we didn't have at least 20 percent cash down we shouldn't buy it. We have done fairly well but it isn't because we have taken a ride on the easy street. We don't carry credit card debt. We pay more than the required amount on our mortgage. We owe nothing on our cars or other toys. Thanks for posting what you did hordak, it has given me a lot to think about.

Here in the state of Utah, apparently it isn't even an requirement whether employers train their employees or not. All they need to do is have workers compensation insurance and they are "good to go".

Oh Boy. First those of us who work or have worked as independent contractors might want to consider this story and the times and places we put ourselves in. When I was working as an independent contractor we had a window of time in which we could complete our project. Most of the time that window was 2-3 days or more. I do not like crowds and with the madness that I have witnessed on the only two years I have participated in this has changed my mind about going back. I wonder why he was there at that time... what product was he taking care of? About the infant who was dropped by the Walmart employee... it is very clear from her injury as subsequent seizures that she has a brain injury. The injury occurred when she was dropped. People don't heal from brain injuries; they never rejuvenate those brain cells that were damaged. It seems pretty clear to me that this young father didn't get good advice from doctors or financial advisors. I am quite sure his intentions were very, very, good. I have a son who has a brain injury and is lucky to be alive. He was an employee of a large company and doing his job when he was injured.

One of the people who went with us was intent on reading the book before she saw the movie. She read it in the car on our way to Provo. She was even reading it through the previews at the movie. After seeing the movie I told her that she would still enjoy the movie because a lot was left out due to time. New Moon is going to be a movie as well? Does anyone know the release date?

I went to see Twilight, the movie Friday Night with my family in tow. I was so excited waiting for the movie to start which seem to take forever. I am the only one who had read the books but everyone enjoyed it. We are going again tomorrow. Well maybe not ALL of us lol.

Something that has been on my mind is that when people were thinking of the American Dream it represented so much more than just acquiring "stuff". The American Dream also meant Freedom and the ability to make choices as you climbed up the ladder. Now the motivation is to hit "just below" the middle rung or it is taken from you and given to the less fortunate. I wonder if we will also lose the ability to write off our freely given charitable donations.
