  1. Wow! That's painting all single LDS guys with one broad brush! Would it be just as fair of me to say that all LDS who drink soda beverages are not good Mormons? Or any LDS who is overweight is not truly living the WofW and brought it on themselves? Everybody has different sets of circumstances that may only allow them X amount of control as to what they garner in their life. I'm a 46 year old reasonably attractive single male whose only option in my area just last week was to attend the big singles STAKE event where the only turn-out was four 70-85 year old women! Whoopee! For where I live, the whole singles scene completely sucks! Singles over 30 in my stake are considered by the stake president as, and I'm quoting, "the last thing on our priority list". So is my only option to leave my family and an excellent paying job to move out to Utah? Not gonna be happening. Or to drive to the nearest 'over 30' singles ward which is 3 hours one way? Again, too much to ask. So please, before making blank generalized statements, think first as to whose toes you may possibly be stepping on, because it's not fun to be on the receiving end.

  4. Wow! Is that the Christ-like attitude to have? What if even just one of those members wanted to come back into church the next week, or even the next year, and start turning their life around? Should we be that quick to remove their names from the records on account of them maybe going through a period of unbelief or questioning of which they could very possibly repent of? What or who is it hurting to keep their names on the membership records?
  5. I think in some ways we're missing the bigger picture in that it's not so much on how immodest a woman is dressed that will attract them attention or even cause improper thoughts in young males, but it simply comes down to how that person looks. I can assure you that if you take those two models that are in those pictures and dress them up in FLDS attire, they'd STILL get way more attention then some girls who would go into the prom dressed in a halter top and short shorts. I think it's nice to say that we want girls to dress nicely and appropriately for what we think our Heavenly Father would want, but that still doesn't mean that it couldn't draw major attention. To be perfectly honest, there are some women I WISH would dress a little more modestly because a halter top and a big gut or short shorts and cottage cheese legs don't exactly make for sexy combinations. While on the other hand, you could put a woman in very garment friendly turtle neck sweaters all through her 20's-30's but if she's gorgeous, works out and has a shapely body, then decides to get breast augmentation surgery and comes out with 'D' sizes, then all bets are off as to what kind of illicit thoughts these may persuade young men to have.

  8. As long as it's rockin' Osmonds, then it ain't too shabby. Crazy Horses, Gotta Get Love, The Last Days and a couple of others are actually some cool hard rockin' pieces. I even read somewhere that Def Leppard does Crazy Horses live. The Donny and Marie stuff you can have though.

  11. I thought, being that I'm on an LDS board, that someone here would be in that kind of position (or used to be) to tell me. Oh and BTW, this isn't pertaining to forgiveness for me. It came from a discussion a friend of mine and I were having trying to understand where the line starts/ends between the two 'forgivenesses'.

  13. Good question, Rachelle! That was the question I asked on my 'Forgiveness from God vs. Forgiveness from the Church' thread and 40 posts later, I STILL haven't gotten a direct answer on this. All I got was Mexican hat dancing around the topic.

  20. Thanks dnc! If anybody wants to get a remote idea of what polygamy is like, I'd maybe suggest watching the T.V. show "Big Love". I know this show has been regarded as highly controversial because of how it depicts mainstream LDS, but it's CLEARLY shown me that regardless of how good the sex may be, there's NO WAY I could ever put up with even one-tenth of the crap that Bill Hendrickson's 3 wives put him through. They're all psychotic! For those that say it's all about the sex, just watch one season and I'll guarantee you'll never think twice about wanting to get involved with polygamy.

  22. What about music on the sabbath? What is O.K.? Classical? Country? Jazz? Christian rock? Ordinary pop/rock but with wholesome lyrics? Does it matter? Is it any more wrong to listen to music than to watch sporting events on T.V.? I guess the reason I bring this up is when I was at BYU-I, I came across situations more than once where I would be get into it with some holier-than-thou roommate for listening to music (nothing heavy, just regular radio pop/rock) after church, yet I would see these same people watching football no problem. I would usually keep it within my room when I'd be practicing my guitar and not bothering my roommates, yet there were things still said. I never quite understood this and even thought it was very hypocritical. What's everybody's thinking on this?

  24. I always wondered how Solomon put up with having 700 wives. Can you imagine 700 wives? That's beyond insanity!
  25. Everything in Wingnut's answer is exactly what I would've said. I agreed with both the dislike of spelling changes of names (I've lost count on how many ways I've seen Brittney spelled:rolleyes:) and giving Allison as her middle name and allowing her to use that as her common name if she wants. IMHO, Shaylee even looks better than Chaelee.
