  1. I hope he got a prenup!!!
  2. Leykis. Don't spell my father's name wrong :)
  3. You're looking at it from the wrong way. I'm just saying that those children with Tourette's had parents who went through those things. Severe is more of a comparison word. Vomiting once a day could be considered severe to someone who never vomits. Severe vomiting to a pregnant woman is a whole lot more than what she would do. A better word might be abnormal vomiting.
  4. http://p082.ezboard.com/ftourettesyndromen...picID=148.topic Some things that suck out (with bolding added): Table 9.3 lists: Perinatal factors: History of event sand exposures occurring during the perinatal period. Prime candidates include chronic or acute hypoxic insults (maternal smoking, placenta insufficiency, prolonged labor); maternal emotional stress during pregnancy, severe nausea and vomiting in the first trimester, and exposure of the male fetus to high levels of androgens in utero. p. 215 "An early study reported that 51 children who had clinically identified tic disorders had sustained significantly more complications in pregnancy than did an equal number of matched control subjects. ... higher rates of preeclampsia, hypertension, gestational diabetes, use of medication during pregnancy, use of forceps, cord problems, and nonvertex presentation (Leckman, Dolnansky 1990) ... the severity of maternal life stress during pregnancy and the presence of severe nausea and/or vomiting during the first trimester were found to be significantly associated with current tic severity, accounting for nearly 50% of the variance in tic symptom severity. In addition, the severity of maternal emotional stress during the pregnancy was positively associated with tic severity and the quality of psychosocial functioning. " ... Tourette's syndrome boys delivered by forceps were 8 times more likely to have comorbid obsessive-compulsive disorder than those not delivered by forceps ... An additional five-fold elevated risk of obsessive-compulsive disorder comorbidity was assoicated in this study with the mother's daily use of coffee (more than two cups per day), cigaretttes (more than 10 per day), and alcohol (more than two drinks each day; p<0.05). (Santangelo et al 1994). A more recent study, using a standardized approach to the assessment of obstetrical complications, identified much higher rates of complications in those who developed TS compared to the rates for individuals in the population at large. Two particular complications are of note: 1) Severe nausea and vomiting during the first trimester ... 2) Forceps delivery, which is very common, especially in boys with TS, was associated with an increase risk for OCD in those boys. Very early psychosocial factors were also noted to increase the risk of TS or related conditions. Maternal stress during pregnancy was associated with overall tic severity and level of psychosocial functioning (12). In addition, moderate coffee drinking, cigarette smoking, and alcohol consumption were associated with an increased risk of OCD in persons with TS. Now you might understand why I don't want to have children. Even if they are birthed perfectly, they are still genetically predisposed (it's a genetic disorder) to get what I have.
  5. Be careful with inducing. Certain brain defects have been known to crop up due to inducing. Or rather a large proportion of certain people with this specific brain disorder were induced or had really long labors.
  6. Why don't you figure out something that is slightly irksome with society or with something about society and fix it. Like invent something. Do you know why street lights were made? Because cars would run into each other at the crossings. Do you know why speakers systems were made? Because people in the back row couldn't hear the guy talking. Here's an idea. Why don't you make a phone that doesn't have that nasty noise when you hang it up. That kkkck sound when it's hung up. That would be cool! Or how about you design a rubix cube, but instead of putting the colors on using glue (which kids are going to peel off anyways) use magnets so kids can take the colors off and reattach them if they ever want to start over.
  7. I always thought the worst sin is zealotry, going way too far. Did you hear about that woman that cut off her boy's arms? What about all those people that flock to the side of a water tower when an image of the virgin mary is on it? Idolotry is really bad too.
  8. I don't think that there will be no sin in heaven, it will be just that we choose not to sin. People will still make mistakes, those that haven't found love can still date and find others and get rejected and feel pain through rejection. In Heaven, I believe we'll continue to learn, and it will be a lot like it is now, just no death. Maybe torture, but I don't know. But no more death, except for spiritual death.
  9. WELL SAID, duck!!!!!
  10. Whether it can exist or not, it says that certain requirements must be met before the common law marriage can exist. That is that first the two must act like a married couple, calling each other husband and wife or something and make it known to others that they are in fact "married." Also, in the case of one spouse dieing, it helps if a contract is made that says that they would eventually get married so that the wife can get benefits from the husband's death.
  11. Read me.
  12. And then there's always the divorce to deal with, should it happen.
  13. You COULD just post the question and see what you get, OR you can actually go to a forum made for ONLY ARCHITECTS and see what they have to say.
  14. Ok, assume the woman gets knocked up and decides to have the child. The father, in his right mind of course, leaves the mother but figures he might have to pay child support. Seeing as how the father has the potential to make it further in the work force and make more money, he can raise a case in a custody battle that shows he would be the better parent and possibly showing that the child couldn't have a supportive upbringing if he goes with the mother (due to the grand parents on the mother's side not being as supportive and caring of their daughter as compared to the parents of the father). So can the father, assuming he wins custody of the child, put the child up for adoption (removing the child completely from his life) without the consent of the mother? Also, at least in California, you can give up your child in any hospital for any reason and they will take care of all the legal work. This was done to prevent people from birthing live babies and then throwing them away in order to get away from the responsibility of raising a child. So if a man were to do this, could the mother regain custody of the child and go after child support from the father? ---------------------------- As to my first question, I was wondering if someone could get married or sealed in the church that wouldn't be recognizable by the state. That way should a divorce happen, everything associated with the legal side of the divorce couldn't actually be forced upon both recipients paychecks and what not, in addition to the sueing and such that could happen also. And does it take two people in order to have a divorce, or does it only require on person to go through a divorce and start up the settlement process of divying up everything?
  15. Is there any way to be married that is only recognized by the church and not the state? So if a divorce were to happen, it would all take place within the church. Another unrelated question: is it possible to put children up for adoption without the consent of the other parent who has no relation to the first parent?

    Shy

Yeah, you need to pretend to not be shy, pretend to be confident, that's what I do. It'a quite invigorating to just go up and ask a girl if she'd like to go out with you. Even if she says no. Just suck it up, swallow your pride, and go for it. It can only hurt if you DON'T.
  17. Why don't you bring cup cakes or something along on the trip and spring it on them or something.
  18. Because we celebrate his resurection in April. It would be kind of weird to be somber yet merry at the same time. Think of how we would seem like if we were acting all Christmasy on Easter.
  19. I'm more of a Mercy Me fan.
  20. There are no such things as dumb questions, only dumb answers, so here goes. As long as you don't listen to the music to learn or uplift you then I think it's cool. I sometimes listen to the christian music station when I'm in my car and nothing else is on, in order to make fun of all the people who think they're unworthy and hopeless and evil and such. I sometimes listen to the sermons too and the talk show "Ask Pastor Bob" or some other pastor guy. Fun stuff. /End dumb answer
  21. Mind if I come?
  22. I figured a little controversy should keep this topic alive. But why should unwanted children be born? It's going to suck for them if they are born, so why not send them straight to Heaven where they can party for all eternity, rather than have to go through the muck of not being wanted.
  23. Hey do you know what Toys for Tots is? Obviously you'd think that Tots (little children) would get their own toys from their moms. But their moms either gave them up for adoption since they didn't want them or the mom can't afford to buy toys for the child. We'd save everyone money if we just got rid of the unwanted children since we wouldn't have to shell out money to buy them toys. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth 8.5 pounds of a cure, assuming a fetus weighs an ounce.
  24. So Cal, near disneyland. When I went to seminary there were about 12 kids for each grade 9-12 in our building.
  25. I was going to throw in a southpaw joke, but felt it would have put the rest of my post to shame if I wasn't completely serious. That joke reminded me about people who have funny names and always get made fun of because of it. Like I knew a guy named Chuck, who always got mad when people would come and say, "What's up, Chuck" and they'd get a laugh out of it. Chuck didn't think it was funny since he's heard it a bunch of times. Whoa, I don't know where that came from. Ignore the last paragraph.
