If the Bishop and one counselor are not on the stand
martybess replied to martybess's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The two times I've been thrown off a bit is when a member walked up the the pulpit while the bishop was giving announcements talked into the mic about something. The second time is when someone apposed a sustaining. (That person apposed the sustaining of the stake president). I was involved in the High Council court on that one..... it was nasty! Took over a day! The member brought in 7 witnesses (that's the maximum they are allowed unless it's changed now). By the way that member was my home teacher and I loved him, it was a sad day. We all cried allot when he was disfellowshipped. He has never came back but he was wrong, you can not indoctrinate others concerning our leaders or false doctrine. Sorry that was way off base for this thread. LOL ... .. -
If the Bishop and one counselor are not on the stand

Is this it? (D&C 107) 10 High priests after the order of the Melchizedek Priesthood have a bright to officiate in their own standing, under the direction of the presidency, in administering spiritual things, and also in the office of an elder, priest (of the Levitical order), teacher, deacon, and member. 11 An elder has a right to officiate in his stead when the high priest is not present. 12 The high priest and elder are to administer in spiritual things, agreeable to the covenants and commandments of the church; and they have a right to officiate in all these offices of the church when there are no higher authorities present. .. -

If the Bishop and one counselor are not on the stand

I remember reading something in the D&C that in the absence of a high priest an elder is to preside. ??????? On a side note sometimes I've wondered why there's so much policy in the D&C and then I came to appreciate it and think of the D&C as "the first handbook of instructions in the latter days". Look at all the policies in the old testament......WOOOOOOOW! Isn't it great were living the higher law and not "an eye for an eye" :) Really I'm not one of those who's anal about policies, just was curious and where else can I throw it out there other then here and get feedback so quickly, thanks all. .. -

Yes I agree totally Suzie....unless your the one in that position. LOL Leaders should try and know the handbook. This question maybe a bit out of "gospel discussion" and more under "knowing policy if your a leader" LOL -

Justice, I'm wondering if it has anything to do with keys? If so why do the bishops counselors preside when the bishops gone and not the EQ pres? The counselors do not hold keys. They act under the direction of the bishop and his keys but so does a HPGL under the direction of the stake pres keys. Most that I have seen have the HPGL sit with the counselor but I was told by a bishop this week this is wrong. It should be the EQ pres. Then another bishop told me it should be the HPGL. I don't think there's really anything anywhere on this because as Pam said as long as one counselors there your good to go and if there's not any of the bishopric no meeting. Unless the stake pres is there or the ward joins another wards sacrament meeting. I have seen that too. -

Ahhhh that is true I have seen that. So that means it's up to the Bishop and Stake president really. There doesn't need to be anyone else. What if all three are gone? -
Does it state anyway who is to sit with the Bishopric member on the stand if the other members are not there during sacrament meeting? I know any or the Stake Presidency can but what's the logical choice if they can not attend? The high counselor assigned to the ward? Does it even need to be a high priest? I know in singles ward or a branch it's different but in a typical Utah ward lets say.

I think the biggest reason some go inactive is that the adversary has been at work and once released and the protection, mantle and blessing are removed they struggle. Example: Wife was strong while a bishop because of the extra blessings that come from that calling but once released they start fighting and really dont even know each other. She stops going to church etc. and this is a huge adjustment for the ex-bishops. (Think about how it felt when you got home from your mission), much the same.

Wow I've always wanted to do that!!! I've had sacred experiences in the wilderness for which I'm grateful. I do lots of hiking and always come away a better person because of it. It's much more than being in the wilderness alone it's what happens to the body or natural man as it were.

I believe in the fast as constituted and it's a wonderful thing to give to the needy for sure. Maybe know really has any references to how they fasted in the scriptures. I heard it once said that they did not go entirely without for the "many days" they fasted. -Marty

I think they had to of drank water after a day or two.
-
Any other takers on the subject/questions? BTW thanks for the responses everyone! I was hoping someone knew how they use to fast, if it was a continuous fast or a restricted fast? I know many wonder about this, it's in the scriptures allot and it would be good to have actual quotes and or answers for them. -Marty

Another question, how long are we suppose to fast? 24 hours or 2 meals? If we don't fast for 24 hours are we just starving ourselves and not taking advantage of the power and blessings with the fast? - Marty
-
In the scriptures it states that they fasted for many days. Here's one I just read today. Mosiah 27:23 Question, what was the process of a fast back then? Was it continuous or did they eat something at night or something? - Marty

How do we recognize revelation, how does it come? 1- It’s a still small voice.(1st Kings19 11-12) 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 2- Perfect mildness that speaks to our souls (spirit) (Heleman 5:30) 30 And it came to pass when they heard this voice, and beheld that it was not a voice of thunder, neither was it a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but behold, it was a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it did pierce even to the very soul— 3- Enlightens, gives empressions, speaks peace and dwells in the heart. (D&C 6:15, 22-23) 15 Behold, thou knowest that thou hast inquired of me and I did enlighten thy mind; and now I tell thee these things that thou mayest know that thou hast been enlightened by the Spirit of truth; 22 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things. 23 Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God? (D&C 8:2-3) - 2 Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart. 3 Now, behold, this is the spirit of revelation; behold, this is the spirit by which Moses brought the children of Israel through the Red Sea on dry ground. - Marty .

Also what are the keys to receiving revelation? According to the scriptures we must prepare to receive revelation by: 1. (Fearing HF, serving Him in righteousness and truth unto the end). 2. Search the scriptures diligently, to know the word of God.” (See Alma 17:2) An essential aspect and another gift HF has given his children. To actually have revelation written down where we can read them.3. Prayer and fasting. (Alma 17:3) 4. Seek the Lord’s will. (Alma 17:9) - Marty .

In his love for his children HF provided as a norm revelation. He has given to us the Light of Christ. Manifestation by the gift of the Holy Ghost. And the gift of the Holy Ghost. All individuals are given the Light of Christ, it helps them to know good from evil, invites to do good, persuades to believe in Christ, sustains life and lead to seek truth. Manifestation by the power of the Holy Ghost is given to seekers of truth, bears record if the Father and the Son and all truth, includes gifts of the spirit one might receive and leads to repentance and baptism. The gift of the Holy Ghost is given by the laying on of hands by those holding the authority, the right to constant companionship and guidance. Now with all this given to us I think revelation is the norm and not the exception. Even though we are cut off from the presence of HF he indeed intended for his children to have a constant flow of revelation. So everyone has the Light of Christ but there are some who have a constraint flow of revelation according to Joseph Smith. But sad it is that those with this gift who does not use it or recognizes it and that is most of us. It is up to us but now here’s my question. If we look at these verses and from what we can gather what keeps us from this revelation? Second why do we fumble so when we know what we know? Any thoughts? -Marty .

I know the type of ppl there will inherit the different kingdoms etc I'm just trying to get my facts straight. So those who will inherit the telestial kingdom will come forth when the second trump sounds and be sent to pay for their sins. So, when its says: it's not saying they will stay in everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. They will be redeemed after paying for their sins and inherit the telestial kingdom, correct?Another question, they will go and pay for their sins in "everlasting fire" but those who will come forth when the third trump sounds as snow stated receive bodies and will be sent back to "everlasting fire" right? Because they will really already be there right??? Awaiting their resurrection and bodies but will be sent back. Only the sons of perdition don't receive bodies. Or will there be a third trump?? LOL I guess I better just study up on it before I get wrong info. There's plenty written about it. My memory is getting really bad. -Marty

It's more the just different amounts of glory, it's actual places we will abode in.
-
What is this referring too? Maybe that would of been a better question. -Marty
-
Mosiah 26: So those who will go to the telestial kingdom will rise when the second trump shall sound right? Are those going to everlasting fire rise at this time too? Or is this verse referring to those of the telestial kingdom?? -Marty

Elder David A. Bednar said, "It is faith as the principle of action that is so central to the process of learning and applying spiritual truth" I think Elder Bednar hit the nail on the head with this. Many times we wonder why were not receiving answers or learning when the problems lies in the fact that were not applying that which is given to us. In order to receive by faith we must apply! Just a thought I had. -Marty

Christ wanted to come and be murdered knowing what it would accomplish. Could HF stop this agency? Wickedness killed Christ not HF. You may say well HF made the plan of redemption and so it was his will to have Christ murdered. Did he make the plan or was it the way it's always been. From the beginning, that is. -Marty
